As far as breathability of gasses on a Gas giant, it all depends on what the planet is made of. If it has proper amounts of oxygen, nitrogen, and CO2, it can probably have floating stations and hardware placed in orbit. If not, Call Planetform!
But there is another set of issues with colonising a Gas Giant. Gravity (although if given a low enough density and artificial gravity into account, it wouldn't be a problem), Inclement weatherghtning, how to keep a large platform floating constantly, volitile gasses, etc.
But I'd go for it. Perhaps a grand experament to create a sort of 'Cloud City' as well as mining operations.
Well for anyone debating about this issue saying it isn't possible read this: How to live on Venus

He flies through half the system before going back to New Berlin, where he cruises from one side of the system to the other, hugging the sun as close as he can. All the while, he flies near Battleships trying to scrape me off. I finally send out the white flag, and move back to Sigma 13. However, it was a ruse, and he bit. Knowing his trade route, I interdicted the trade lane and the chase began anew. It ended, an hour after it began, with me retreating, out of Countermeasures and getting very irritated.
He kept boasting how he has never been caught; I'd like to see him beat until he begs to pay, then beaten some more.

Well, since stations have artificial gravity, why not a Atmospheric station.
I'm sure there could be some gas giant that has oxygen or something breathable. It's a game anyway, we can design it however we want (to an extent).

Again, using Jupiter as a comparison, when Jupiter seems to be on the high side of gas giants..Gravity is larger, yes. But for the mass (and gravity) of 95 earths (Saturn) you've a volume of 763.59 earths....And Uranus? Gravity of 14 earths, with a Volume of 63. I'm not sure how exactly the math works, but I do know that the farther you get from the core, the less gravity there is. I also know that the bigger the planet, the denser the whole thing is, because gravity pulls it together to maintain cohesion. Lighter/smaller the Gas Giant the easier it would to be to build a structure....Which you would to by:
first, Zepplins. Overcome the Pressure, you overcome Gravity(because pressure is caused by gravity). So you build a hard shelled cage, and string up an impermeable plastic or some such over it (on the outside). Fill it, in space, with air. To, say, an atmosphere of pressure. Fill another, Fill another. Get enough, and you attach them to your station, which is set up to withstand, from the outside, you guessed, one atmosphere of pressure (or, just about. It'll be the average of the zeppelins and the station.) Then you drop them into the gravity well.
I would just be happy with a station orbiting a gas giant that was extracting gas from it with come sort of conduit. Since a conduit can ran to the surface of a planet from orbit (I think this is how cargo is transferred from mooring fixtures...) this would be possible in RP, I think. It would also be a lot easier to make than a custom landing scene. But if someone really wants to make a custom landing scene that isnt working on another, potentially more critical, area of the mod, go for it!

Little known fact: The Puerto Rican Rift will not kill you if you're in a transport or higher. You'll just have a nice 300k repair bill when you're done visiting.

In theory one could construct a "gas giant" which has an accessable upper atmosphere.
This was for some gas mining theory purposes.
Exactly.
You can also put a small spherical nebula equal to the atmospheric zone around the planet.
So you have:
1) 'Solid' core using an actual planetary model - represents 'crush depth'.
2) Larger atmospheric zone with a dockable base in it.
3) The whole thing is nested inside a small nebula equal to the atmospheric zone - representing the upper atmosphere of the Gas Giant.
For the best effect you would need the right sort of colour and lighting effects. I was looking to experiment with something like this for Sigma-59.
This is a really cool concept for future bases and whatnot. I have only one criticism to offer to the Helium Giant with an Oxygen atmosphere. It's fundamentally impossible on the atomic level. Oxygen is a more dense element than Helium. (Hence it makes a great gas for floating balloons) It may work better if the idea was in reverse. Oxygen Giant with mineable Helium atmosphere, or possibly a Helium Giant with a Hydrogen atmosphere. (two birds one station?)
I'll take some time and see what I can pull off Wiki as for a more dense gas than Oxygen that holds some kind of value. I really like the idea of an outdoor upper atmosphere gas giant mining station.
