What I mean through this is that if we are hired by the Corsairs to hunt the Outcasts and their allies then we will hunt them. However if we later find a big bounty hunting contract on the Corsairs we wouldn't take it up, it would threaten the contract with the Corsairs. And if we make a contract with the Rheinlanders then we will say that we will not hunt the Corsair forces. Of course because of this we would not likely be able to make a contract with Bretonia, as I see the Corsairs as the main hostiles in Bretonia.

' Wrote:So you're saying that if/when you go official, there's gonna be tons of little merc companies around? There already are. Sorry but your point is pretty vague and just passes me by. And 'one over all' wouldn't work. Have you seen in what state the houses are currently? You'd have to align yourself to one instead of all four and hence become localised.
Saw this one whilst posting the above post. I'm not saying there would be tens of mercenary companies around that go out and get contracts with everyone but then somehow are all part of one big company, that wouldn't work no-matter what happened. I think my reply to Reverend Del's post might explain it, we would have several contracts but not in the same area. We could have a contract with the Corsairs and Liberty, the Corsairs don't effect Liberty and vice versa. We could have a contract with Rheinland and Gallia, Rheinland doesn't effect Gallia and vice versa.

A contract with Gallia ain't gonna work, just saying.
Well, that would eventualy lead into a bug clusterphook and still keep you localised instead of being 'galactic'. I mean, at a certain point you're gonna 'contract yourself stuck' into a certain area. Atleast, the way I see it.
Edit : Another thing. What if -no one- hires you. What will you do then? Shoot pirates? Sit in space?

I used Gallia as an example, Rheinland and Gallia are so far apart that contracts with them both isn't going to effect them.
Eventually we would reach our capacity for contracts and stop offering them to clients. However if a faction currently assigned to our hostile list decides to make us a better offer then we would switch sides and make a break contracts accordingly.
And to your last question, if no one hires us we will most likely choose one or two factions (most likely unlawful onces) to attack and hope that either them or their enemies realise that were doing damage to them and set up a contract to either stop it and attack their enemies or do even more damage.
I appreciate the questions, as it is solving the major issues early.

Doing damage as in, We'z in ur home system, bein al cap pew pew pew? Or more along the lines of 'search and destroy' rather than 'sit and raip'? And now that we're on the subject, how many caps do you plan on using? (Caps being GB's and up)
' Wrote:I am in agreement with you, I currently see no way that Artemis is unique from, say, the Bounty Hunters Guild or just another Mercenary faction trying to get in on the big guns. But the way I see this is that if this was real, would there really be one big all-mighty PMC that controlled the Sirius Sector? There would be loads of little ones fighting for the most control and therefore the most business. I see this as a way of making the game a slight bit realer by creating competition for the BH Guild.
No problem mate, and thanks for the response.
That is why the Guild exists, and many of us put petty differences aside to create a new union of operators providing an array of security services at a reaonable fee. If you are our competition, remove BHG ships from your line. No can do. Would sir be interested in the stock we have just acquired through a civilian dealer?

As a ASPHF (nice acronym) you will have to meet bvery high standards. Have a transparent rp justification for everything you do, contracts arranged through diplomacy with other factions is one way to go.
Mercenary factions are difficult to establish with any real longevity in game. And the ship choice is one way of establishing that. You cannot have two masters - all real life mercenary organisations have at least some political influence in their choice of work. Even the most amoral, apolitical "dogs of war" are individuals and allow moral and political considerations to shape their career paths.

If you view the rank list you will see that only Captains and the CEO are allowed gunships or gunboats, and I expect very good role-play stories to be approved by me before they are bought. I would only use my gunboat in a fighter against a gunboat, a decent bomber pilot would rip me to shreads. I'm going to stick with an eagle and a gunboat.
I am hoping that after we have shown to the community that we are a good faction we can ask for one zoner destroyer, not for combat but for role-play purposes, to act as a base for Artemis employees to stay and rest and if nessicary the ship would engage in combat.

I agree, it would be like using Corsair ships with an Outcast contract (although not that extreme). Perhaps the Spatial can act as a Gunboat, I fought one with my old Corsair Gunboat character and it put up a pretty good fight, and the Zoner Gunboat would be ok with only 4 guns it would need a brilliant pilot to defeat a Corsair Gunboat.

I agree, and the main one I see is war. War opens up new contracts for Mercenary companies, two sides and fighting as you pick the highest payer to assist. Some examples are Bretonia and Kusari, Liberty and Rheinland, the Corsairs and the Outcasts, the BHG and pirates, Houses and Gallia (is that right, i didn't hear if Gallia is hostile to the houses or not). Another example is the war with the Order and the BHG. I'm not sure if they like to say it, but it looks to me that the Order are losing. When I had my Order character I couldn't stand the constant attacks so I deleted it, and i've heard it's goten worse. What would they pay if a powerful Mercenary company came around, offering services in defence against the Bounty Hunters?

Can I make a suggestion? Don't try to or even expect to find work everywhere. And don't expect your actions at one end of the galaxy to be overlooked when you go elsewhere. If you do choose to fight for the Order, then that closes down lawful work for you in Liberty. Plus you would have trouble with the Guild elsewhere in Sirius. If you choose to take contracts against the Rheinlanders for the lawful factions in Liberty, the you can't reasonably expect to find unlawful work in Liberty.
In other words, you can't ever be a true neutral mercenary. The first contract you take will shape the path ahead.
