Discovery is NOT the cesspool of Sci-fi. It's an expansion of Freelancer, the import ships were added at a time when the community didn't have ship modellers. This has been said before in previous threads, it shouldn't be ignored.

If you want a Homeworld ship, play Homeworld.
If you want a Lunchbox, play Star Wars: Empire at War.

Those import models break the immersion of Discovery, and make it feel very amateurish. ALL of them need to go, sooner or later.

Agreed. Discovery is not Homeworld, Star Wars or whatever, it's Freelancer.
You can always go back and play a 4.84 server if you want to use the old ships.

Aww, nothing wrong with being sentimental!

Besides, who can come up with a more iconic design than the GMG Whale?

History of these old ships can also be useful. Renzu Corp has been touted as the unnamed 4.84 company that made the Talarca Light Cruiser, and it has been suggested that the ship was a victim of its own success.

What might be interesting is to take some of these imports as inspiration for a new design.

Imports should be removed, I agree.

the BHG BS was not only ugly, it was downright weird to see it in freelancer.
same for some other ships.

but it`s true: the Whale, the old (sweet looking) oc dessie.

some aspect of good looking old ships should be carried over to their new counterparts.

i.a.: the rusty, banged up look from the BHG dessie should be implemented on the new model. it just fits the bill imho.

This is why I have a install of some previous versions in open sp so I can reunite with my old ships. I dont think all the old ships should be put back in. Especially not the lunchbox ;). I think your very right in your statement about cap ships. These days people are scared of flying them because its considered OORP! I really miss the good ol days where manhat was cluttered with diverse and unique capital ships that had been sucked into the center of Sirius. Caps aren't oorp but I think when people see alot of them they think they are. Like with the light cariers and liberty caps and BH caps. When you get told to sell your ship just because its popular is when RP starts to take over fun.

Not fun for those who truly RP. If you want to fly around in a big cap going to places where it's -not- supposed to be, then you're on the wrong server, mate.

Now listen hear blokes, I don't go oorp for nothen ok. So don't tell me I don't "truly RP" cause mate, as fare as I know ya wrong. And yes, as a matter of fact I didn't care that an osiris was in NY because it just shows that they have worked hard for it. Don't critise what ya don't know. It might just be your downfall:angry:

Kindly note how I said "Fun for you, IF you're the OORPer."

Wasn't directed to you at all. No need to get all defensive, unless guilty.:P

Amen to that. Also, flying an Osiris is not a guarantee for having worked a lot, unless you consider F2, F3, F3, F3, sell,... working

There will be no imports left in Discovery eventually, which is exactly what the majority of people want.
