Then why do we have carriers?

(The LAC doesn't look like a carrier too much actually, more of a Heavy Cruiser like you had said.)

So that when people are fighting, we can can say things like "Launch teh fighterz!" and add to general RP goodness.

just because i fly it doesnt mean it shouldnt be changed. and the turrets would do similar damage to that of a GB but have a higher velocity 1400-1700

its not a change for the sake of change, it is a change to better the environment of the mod itself. to have a class of ship that isnt just for the capwhores who fly around in overpowered huge vessels. it would be for the players who can role play effectively in game.

changing the name of the class would be easy, but not something creative to the mod. and from what i can tell creativity is what this mod is based on.

as a further note. mabye in addition to the changes already proposed. give it a specified carrier id with a farther scanner range 15-20k so it can better see people coming and coordinate its support

Well...they were designed to fulfill a rp role,and as long as game mechanics stay the way they are,that rp role will never be fulfilled.People just see it as a big ship.A really big ship.

Personally, i view carriers as having strong defences to protect the fighters/bombers within, and shuttles and whatnot. More armor, defence guns, less offence ability. Battleships have big guns to slam away with a crapton of firepower. currently, however, we are shooting peashooters at eachother, and i think they are all balanced atm, for their need in the rp and pvp enviorment. The ln carrier is heavy bs balanced because its opponent, the RH bs, is sucha beast. The LAC for the order is the same, order needed a bc, and that filled the slot. Until we come up with NEW classes of ships, cruiser/bc/bs are all the caps we have.

You can't launch what isn't there, sadly.

A Carrier could act as a base of information as well, using more powerful radar ranges and whatnot to detect players early, if that's not limited by the game parameters.

It is.
Discovery Scanner/BS Licence Range (Both Same (14k Sight and 10k When you can Click and whatever the Cargo Scan Range is) is the Highest Possible.

The issue is that a FL Carrier cannot carry and deploy an assorted mix of 60-80 LF, VHF, & Bombers.

So if anything disco carriers are completely underpowered compared to what they should be.

This is made up for by giving them the stats they currently have.

It wont improve anything, the only thing making the proposed changes will do is stop people from flying the ships at all.

We've got enough ship classes in the mod that nobody wants to fly because people screwed them up in this whole balancing spree, dont ruin another.

No, this mod is based on -freelancer-, which didnt even have carriers in the first place. Go back and play the campaign, fighters and bombers (not that there really were any, tbh) were carried by battleships, not dedicated carriers.

You want this game to be more "real life", well it isnt, face the facts. This mod, this server, is based on an inaccurate sci-fi game, and what we need to keep 'true' to is that game's design concept.
