Uhh, I used to trade through the Omegas, namely 3 and 7 if they count. I got to go through there for the old Engine Components and Beryllium routes.

Also, Zoners and Artifact smugglers/junkers? I hear they do it.

Ah. Well, anyways, I have to sneak past the Colonial Remnant on my route, so I know what cargo piracy is for a trader. Solid suck.

I'm the transport the OPG failed to pirate in omega today, with three ships.

Yeah. The Perch/shire team is awesome fun. and if the trader doesn't shoot us like a lulwhutting retard...we may even let them off with as low as a third of his cargo stolen. And sweatmeats for the children aboard.

The VR rarely pirate for credits. Instead we tend to pirate for in-RP commodities and "VIPS".

;D

' Wrote:A lot of changes to commodities sold on pirate bases would have to take place. Right now only very few cargo hauls are worth stealing, Neon is worthless to Rogues yet we have thousands of units drawn through California every day. About the only things worthwhile are contraband or fuel and arms, but very few people haul those.

What needs to happen is for the prices of cargo to go WAY up at unlawful guard bases. Cassini lies in a critical location between the Liberty and Kusari houses ... thus the Rogues would profit greatly from the heavy trade that goes between the two houses. All commodities pillaged from traders should be double what they could be sold for on lawful planets. This would encourage piracy of cargo AND would keep these "lawful" traders honest since you'd have to be green with the Liberty Rogue Guard in order to sell the stuff.

Same would go for other critical trade routes where there's an unlawful guard system nearby. And since pretty much every unlawful is friendly with the Junkers ... Puerto Rico is a good place for selling goods from traders caught running between Liberty and Rheinland. And lets not forget Vespucci where the Hackers can gain from the goods caught between Bretonia and Liberty.

And the list goes on.

' Wrote:Um what? Get a junker and sell it to him. It encourages player interaction.
Also there's tons of neons passing trough NY every day, something must be coming back. It's like we don't pirate the alien organisms, but we know something will be back trough omegas.

things don't need revamping because of that, you just need to cooperate more with others.

Encouraging more player interaction ... maybe ... there's not always a Junker online to sell the stuff to. Not to mention these Junkers would end up like the greedy arms dealers ... they'll pay you the least and cash in the most.

' Wrote:Difference is, cargo piracy is more opportunity pirating than credit pirating. You only rob the transports that are worth something. Which isn't a lot of them for the Rogues at least. I've pirated Artifact smugglers in the past, but we can't really touch Blood Diamond and Cardamine transports, which doesn't leave a whole lot of stuff to sell. We do take Deuterium and sell it on the Freeport though, but it would be better if Rogue bases payed more for things, even if it was just 600-800 credits instead of 100.

But, cargo piracy does make a bit more sense than credit piracy in some ways. I can see traders offering bribes to Pirates to let them keep their cargo, though.

If given the choice I'd rather pirate for the cargo ... but there's no profit in it with the way things are.

' Wrote:Why can't you pirate a Cardamine and blood diamonds transport? :/
Some rules I'm unaware of?

What's the point in pirating from other unlawfuls? Its like the Liberty Navy demanding a shipment of food from a lawful trader ... just doesn't make sense.

' Wrote:Making asking money OORP and take the cargo mandatory for more RP ?

...

I say YES.

Ah yes ... so would making a "lawful" trader landing on Malta to buy Cardamine and sell it back on Manhattan would be OORP and making it mandatory for "lawful" traders to ONLY deal in "lawful" goods ... that would be more RP ... right?

Yeah ... don't see that happening.

' Wrote:I'd have to say this would seem to be a great step in RP.

The pirate ships - which are, as we know, way too large for their own good - could get a lot of cargo each - like the Bloodhound could get 150, the Hyena 200, the Wolfhound 300, and the Werewolf 400.

They're so massive that it would make sense if they were built with large cargo holds for the reasons of stealing cargo.

Wouldn't it?

For this to be a worthy cause for role play, we're gonna need to modify pirate vessels so they can actually carry the cargo they demand. If I see a Tanker with 5000 units of cargo and I've only got 400 units of storage space on my gunboat ... I'm gonna ask for the credits instead. BUT ... if I have 2500 units of storage ... I'd be more inclined to demand the cargo.

' Wrote:Why shouldnt I pirate all the Cargo? I pirate as much as I can carry. I dont care if I take all the Cargo then, I am there to Roleplay a Pirate. A Pirate wont think about fairness.

Well ... NPCs always demand 100% of whatever cargo they demand. I've never encountered an NPC who only demands 50 units when I've got 1000. And these NPC pirates don't have the cargo space for the full 1000 units. So ... if you wanna talk RP in terms of how NPCs act (as many do here) then we need to follow their example. That means if I demand 100% of a Tankers 5000 units and he only drops 1000 ... I'd be in my rights to destroy him ... AND collect the 1000 units he dropped.

I do like the idea of cargo piracy ... but making it "mandatory" is over the line. New rules do nothing but make people cranky and confused. Its far better to modify the ships and the commodities exchange on unlawful guard bases to "encourage" others to role play. I find positive reinforcement much more beneficial than negative reinforcement.

I like Baltar's suggestion regarding making cargo piracy feasible (right now it has a long way to go), but I'd prefer to stick with the way things are currently, with both being options. I disagree with the allegations that people are pirating for profit, since in my experience there is no such thing regarding piracy (I have to frequently give my pirate character money from my smuggler just to pay for his ammunition and regens).

But again, losing 20 million by being pirated would still suck. Being cash pirated, 5000 cargo captain loses 2 to 5 million. Being cargo pirated, he loses closer to 20 million. I don't care who you are, that is just uncool.

Either way ... something's gotta be done to make it worth the pirate's time and effort. If he can only take 400 units from a Tanker who carries 5000 units ... that's less than 10% of his cargo's worth ... then he's not gonna make much at being a pirate. What really annoys me is the lulwhut traders.

Pirate vessels need more cargo space and someplace where he can sell it for a decent profit to make it worth piracy of cargo ... that's the bottom line. Without that you might as well kiss the cargo piracy idea goodbye.
