Not only would it be impossible to see what your RP-Partner is saying in system if everyone was using it, but a lot of RP calls for some secrecy.

For example, when I'm on my Pirate Transport, pirating in say... New York. If I was to give my pirating messages in system, I'd have about 60 seconds from the time my first message hits the screen, till the indie capships start rolling in.
I tried system chat before on that character, it got a couple LABC's and a bunch of other indie LN's in GB's and fighters down on our party of my transport, and 2 GB's.

I actually make sure not to type anything in system on that character anymore.

There is still lot of RP, but also increasing number of lolers. Since I have decided to play some other faction then my original one, I havent set foot in place where I would not meet PVP hungry OORP lulers. Hate it. I have now several Liberty lawful chars, only to meet russian talking and oorp in New York. I have a corsair stationed in Gamma - I guess I do not have to tell you how pitiful the place is. I even have a pirate, hurting the powerloltraders so they can complain. Only decent RP is like, nowhere, sometimes with Liberty navy members, LSF members, and my own guys, but thats where it ends. People here are interested in make money, buy ship, go pwn!

I've personally noticed a disturbing amount of traders that don't speak english except for the phrase "Can no talk English.", but other than that not much of a problem with lolers. But I always hang out in Rheinland, that could be why.

I think that one of the biggest problem in Disco is that unlawfull factions (someone mentioned Mollys, RH, LR...etc) are generaly not paying so much attention to their primary goal. For example Mollys should be fighting for indipendient Dublin and not just sitting next to some trade lane. I understand that, in RP, piracy is the way for this factions to make some money, but that should be in second plan. 7 times out of 10 Mollys (they are just an example, Molly players please don't take this personally) should RP some attack to some station, base or something.

So, if factions pays more attention to their primary goals, RP will become much better.

We are all dying -- and we're gonna be dead for a long time...

About the only problem I see here, that is however also a huge ballbreaker of a problem, is the fact that the server is capped at 200 players and because of this there is only so much teamwork that we can unfortunately have within a given spectrum of time...

While the argument can be made that if you spam the "connect" button you will eventually get on, the quick response factor is dead in the water and since most factions rely on skype emergency for quick defence from incoming raiders, it sort of usually twists the favour in battle to one side or the other, not because the other is incapable of protecting their interests, but because the other is unable to log on to the server as the situation demands it.

What this creates is the mentality of "what's the use of calling an emergency when nobody will be able to log" aka a state of justified apathy. I think we can see that easily by just paying attention to the OC/Corsair emergency chats both of which are pretty dead as of late. And while the focus on teamwork gets greater and greater, the server gets fuller and fuller and less actual teamwork can be made... which is quite ironic in the end.

Note that while I love teamwork, this is just a criticism that unless the server slots get enhanced by another 200 or more, there is only so much emphasis that we can put on working in teams, otherwise most factions will simply become useless.

Thanks for the view of things. Yes, server cap is something to worry about, but with new york being as it is, i am sure that if most factions worked harder in luring new people, new york population would actually fall down and not clog the server.

note, this is not their fault, they have right to be in new york, but perhaps with getting to chose your starting house would actually reduce the Liberty population and increase other houses.

For example Bretonia and Kusari are empty almost, while New York and Omicrons and eventually omegas are filled.

Well, a couple months back a few factions had ideas to create a "recruiter" char in NY, which although sounded like a nice idea, created it's own set of problems with the first one presenting the question of how OORP exactly is this (and it is by quite a bit for most factions) ending on the fact that most factions don't really know how to deal with newbies (also known as "lolwutters" by this community) or they do know, and they try, they will get ostracised on the forums for every single thing that the newbie will do badly, and their faction feedback will be turned into a flame fest - none of these "perks" is anything a single faction wants.

But I'm getting sidetracked. At any rate it really is a bummer to get people out of NY while remaining completely in RP, because truth be told most of the factions that do not get recruits simply do not cover Liberty. The problem is that people go where there is activity, which creates in a way a self-propelling situation that just doesn't really stop. Remember that most of the people in Liberty don't care about the forums at all. You can create a flashy recruitment thread and score loads of forum activity, and it won't matter a pinch. This is simply because that while the forum is emphasized, most of the people on the server (the odd 90 background people that are always there) don't really care about the forums and I can't see us being able to do anything to change it...

Back when I used to trade instead of steal, I would hire random fighter pilots in New York and have them escort me long distances for a small fee, enough to get a Mark 2 fighter, sometimes.

I would talk to them as I did so, fully in character, promoting roleplay.

I've made some good friends doing this, and it works well.

That is actually a very nice idea. I'm going to try doing that too.
