Now, don't give pseudo-scientific reasons involving energy on the ships, since well, we have laser weapons going as slow as bullets, sound in space and jump holes.
They use a ridiculous amount of energy, and fighters have to compensate for that. This makes sense.
going by that logic we should be able to mount a Cerberus on a fighter.
EDIT: or by that logic, why are there limits to what weapon class different fighters can use?
I have read through this discussion and wanted to say, that I guess I am one of the few who dont use Nova torps. I used to use them but found them not to my liking. Sure they are powerful, but a pain in the rear in PvP. I actually dont mind fighting ppl that have them, they are slow, don't track, and use alot of energy. If you are in a fighter and get hit by one you probably deserve it. Even in a gunboat, you can avoid most Novas if you constantly manuever. I have been destroyed by them, but it is usually my carelessness that has done me in, i.e. flying straight for to long. I'd say leave them alone, nerfing a weopon like this is unnecessary. They are nice versus cruisers, battleships and other slow ships and give fighters/bombers a chance versus the big boys.
Apart from the physical size and shape of capital weapons, you have a good point... but the Nova is a fighter's anti-cap weapon. It is what it's designed for.
It is used by VHFs and Bombers against capital ships.
VHFs don't make great use of them and are nothing really worth getting worried about.
Bombers do make great use of them. As is only right.
EDIT: i have seen these used effectively numerous times in fighter vs fighter fights. both pilots being skilled players. so no, skill isn't the answer. dodging helps yes, but i have been in full dodge mode in a lightfighter and have been picked off by a nova.
LF=good turn rate, but weak fire power(CD,CM only)
HF=good fire power, but less turn rate(Mine,CD,CM,only)
Bomber=no guns,2 torpedo slot,(Mini Razor,Inferno,Nova Only)
GB=no change
Cruiser=more anti-fighter turrets(in RL, most Cruiser are use for AA)
BattleCruiser=no change
Battleship=need some anti-fighter beam turrets
' Wrote:No, I think the problem is in the player, not the weapon or ship.
What problem? I don't see a problem here anyway, like I said, I do want some changes but not much anyway, simply because I feel FS a little bit more close to what should be, but that's merely my opinion. Speaking of a "player problem", now I don't want to sound harsh but I feel that trend "everything-is-ok-if-you-know-what-you-are-doing" is getting too old and have a stench of elitism. Things around can still be wrong regardless of how "right" you're playing. Although playing "wrong" indeed can screw up a lot.
Here's an idea, make the nova shots VERY visible. If they can be seen better, anyone can dodge them in fighters.

There is need for torpedoes for some specialised tasks, yes. They are good at disarming other ships due to splash damage. Several pilots that I've fought have used this to great effect.
However, the Nova has been designed as the Torp Slot Mk2. It is meant to be better than your average torpedo. So is the Inferno and the Mini Razor.
