I don't know what would happen if a gate went poof with a hole open. Nothing, hole would close, Texas?

We can only speculate.

I don't think we can make them without the gate though.

The wormhole phenomenon created by a Jump Gate behaves the same way as a Jump Hole. The Gate serves as an artificial anchor, so to speak, so apart from creating the wormhole, it keeps it stable and a relative fixed position in space. However, it does require a significant amount of power - hence why Gates are deactivated when not in use.

I would assume that the wormhole would at least destabilise and most likely collapse. This on its own, however, is not a particularly destructive event - unless you are caught inside it, which could cause anything from total annihilation to being scattered through time and space, and not in one piece either.

Texas was a very unique incident. Just keep in mind that tossing insane quantities of antimatter at open Jump Gates is not healthy. The dark matter that poured through the open supergate first caused the destruction of said gate, which caused a rather large explosion. That explosion then spread the remaining dark matter (that hadn't been converted to energy when contacting the Gate) throughout the Texas system, leaving those hideously dangerous clouds and a lot of wreckage. The wormhole collapsed and the probe which had been sent through was probably lost forever.

(Sorry for going off topic a bit but I can't help but talk about these things :] )

There was a sig here, once.

I'd say they're just as dangerous as Jumpholes. :nyam:
