yea i was only there the one time... well 2 to be precise 1 to help out a few traders of mine.. the 2nd time was to bring all my characters to tau sell all the ships give the money to a pilot of mine and make a new account
Yeah, everyone, it's not just them, and I guess it wasn't a hard mistake to make.
Just something that an eye needs kept on, I guess. Nothing here is warranting reports, for instance, but letting folk know what alliances should really involve would be good, since sometimes they do require military action.
I especially like the SF and SA's wargames that they've posted about. A very good way to show how allies can work together, without policing each others' space.
Why should allied factions not fly patrols for allied factions?
If one faction asks another faction to help out with these patrols, and the asked faction agrees, there is no reason to forbid such actions.
But maybe it should be pointed out by a litte roleplay story to inform everyone.
But as we have far more pirates than lawful pilots here on the server, it is very much needed that lawful factions assist each other in keeping their space safe.
yes agreed, but since this is a RP server a bit or RPwont hurt. like the SA and SF have a deal allowing the SA in leeds, if that kind of stuff can be done...
and btw, kusari and bretonia hate each other, from what i heard liberty and rhineland may be at war in the future (not sure of that rumour atm), so...
Leech, no one is asking anyone else, thats the trouble. These tenuous 'alliances' actually don't exist in most
cases, and factions are just deciding to do it off their own backs, and thats not RP ...
Thats just going where there is going to be a bit more PvP probably.
If it ain't your space, bit rude to patrol it ...

I would believe the only type of alliance that would allow a large military action in another's space, would be a Mutual Protection Pact. Should a faction who has this pact fall under attack, in any area, the allies should come to their aid. That being said, this pact would not allow allies to join in on attacks or raids. There should also be some form of sense to these pacts. You would not have a Kusari Naval faction holding a MPP with a Corsair faction. You could have trader factions and police, police and mercs, military and police, lawful and bounty hunter... you get the picture.
Good point Duck, and to be honest in your case, good for the mercenary factions. Thats why we have them,
protection when your own back-up isn't available, although team handed militia in capital ships is bordering
on the same problem. The home system protection force calls the shots. No autonomous policing, and make
sure you are getting paid.
Pirates are allowed only gunboats and below to ply their trade in most cases, protection should mirror that
instead of using the biggest sticks available for bashing.

Agreed, it would make little sense to send a (for example) squad of DW battleships from Omega 15 to aid SF in Cambridge. By the time the back up arrived the defenders could have been killed. So gunboats and lower would be the only ships available for a call for defense, as speed of arrival in numbers outweighs high firepower, but lengthy travel time.

Yep, but thats what I wrote there didn't I? I said, maybe they should atleas post a little roleplay story about that agreement so everyone is informed.
But generally if two factions are allied, they can ask their allies to assist them, whatever the task may be.
And there is in no way a need to make this agreement official then.
But ofcourse if for example TBE hates Bretonia and Rheinland, but is neutral to Liberty, and Libery helps Bretonia against TBE, Libery is likely to become hostile to TBE as well.

That's the point. Also Liberty Forces which protect the area from piracy would be a direct intervention into the war (because liberty and rheinland keep neutrality), I don't think the LSF would just stand around and watch while Kusari and Bretonian Pilots killing each other....
