ehhhhh......I have a slight problem though.....My train barely has a mil, so if I load up on my route, I REALLY won't have any money left, and if the pirate decides his nova launcher is getting restless.....I'm screwed -.-
Timber_Wolf, you DO disrupt our fun. I'm a pirate, I've tried getting you, you ran we killed you, you switched characters. I think the only reason you launched was to draw my 'wing' further from Theta and your...... Other character. No wait.... I KNOW that for a fact.
Then also, there is the Military side of this. As a military officer, when I demand your CONTRABAND, you better fork it over or prepare to die. Not land and refuse to launch other than to fly in a circle while cruising carrying no cargo.
Now, I, well, smuggle. If I get caught, I fight it out. Or I run, land, launch again, then run and fight along the way. Also, I don't repair if someone is giving chase.
When you take artifacts to New Berlin RIGHT past a member of the RM, and you are ordered/asked to drop your cargo, prepare to fight for the right to continue trading. Die in your train, or drop the cargo, and I'll leave. But if you land AND sell......... Then you made me angry.
This is my point, trading characters can easily ,well most of the time, recover losses to pirating but they NEVER bother to stop (I'll admit that this is in my experiance only, so far).
I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is no point doing any more pirate clans until traders stop running to the nearest base and camping or leaving the server everytime known pirates or phantoms start to group together.
There is no point to pirating, for RP or just for fun, until this stops and maybe making all the large trading ships (the Transport, Large Transport, Train and the Large Train) affected by cruise disrupters and giving them CM droppers.
Then they would be as easy to stop and demand cargo from as the frieghters.
If a pirate comes after me while I am on my NY --> Yaren route I don't fork over anything (I never surrender or give money to pirates, but hey I guess thats what you should expect from me) I just keep flying until I get to the base I was heading for sell my cargo and go again. I don't ever sit in a base though. I undock as soon as I sell my cargo. If pirates want to waste their time trying to pirate me thats fine but they won't get any from me.
Pretty much if your going to go trading either prepare to give up some money or die. And if you are so concerned about getting attacked ask someone to escort you.
Or....
keep an eye on the pirates location, and if in the same system, travel over or under the ecliptic. 12k up or down should be enough to evade sensors.

Well, in my mind, running for the nearest friendly base is a very reasonable thing to do. Consider this for a moment, if you get mugged while standing outside a police station, would you pay up or run for safety?
It is the pirates job to ambush traders somewhere where they cannot easily get to a friendly base. If you catch me right outside a base you can bet Ill run for safety. If you catch me on my own far away from any friendly base, Id rather pay than lose my cargo.
Of course, the demand must also be reasonable. If Im hauling 1 million worth of cargo and you ask for 5, Ill take my chance and run since my cargo is not worth nearly as much as the credits.
