' Wrote:I was thinking about ideas like... make some sort of basic motivating way to start the game...
Like a very straight forward thing.
Like you are a new recruit in the navy or something and this is what you will be supermotivated to role play while you get to know the game, and once you got to know it you'll see a new possibility to slip into some other faction, which is also very motivating to play.
I guess the first obvious faction would be Order, the second nomads, or navy, or others.
But there would have to be very specific learning on how to role play these factions correctly, kinda like you learn how to play a game in single palyer campains.
With every mission you learn more about the game.
Kinda like the starcraftt campains... you learn more about the game in every step you take. You start with humans, then zerg, then protos. Same could maybe be done for the basic freelancer factions, which are suposed to be the most numerous
I really like the idea about the StarCraft campaigns, but the problem is that implementing it will be either a) very, VERY, VERY time-consuming or b) impossible without the source code. If we could somehow implement this however, I think it could turn out to be something like this:
First of all, you would be playing first as a Liberty Navy or Police pilot and you would do a few missions taking out pirates and terrorists (Navy/Police Campaign). At the same time, if you go into the bars, you'll hear about Trent's actions like taking out the Rogue base and stopping Sean Ashcroft.
The next act would most likely be you playing as a pirate, most likely the Lane Hackers since Trent meets with them next (Pirate Campaign). After protecting Trent while he makes his escape, you would probably take a few missions where you and your teammates attack traders and bring the goods back to Mactan or maybe demand credits from a trader. Meanwhile, if you go to the bars, you'll hear about Bounty Hunters losing Trent's trail in Bretonia (remember, once he gets a new ship in Bretonia, the Hunters forget about him) and also about Rheinland ships being taken out by Trent in Bretonia.
Next up would be the terrorist campaign where you play as a Blood Dragon and harrass the Kusari Navy and Police and maybe even Samura while you hear about Trent's attack on the Heaven's Gate in the bars (Terrorist Campaign).
The fourth campaign would probably involve you playing a Nomad-infested Rheinlander (Wild Campaign). You'll probably take missions against the Kusari Navy (the two Houses declare war on each other right after the incident at the Heaven's Gate) or just run around Rheinland suppressing dissent. If you go into the bars, you'll hear about Trent's attack on the secret military installation in Frankfurt with the Bundschuhs.
The fifth campaign would involve playing as a Nomad (Nomad Campaign). You'll probably end up running around Sirius killing any humans who haven't been infested by the Nomads. You could dock on a Nomad Battleship and go to the bar in there to see reports of Trent freeing President Jacobi, stealing the Nomad Power Cell, and making the suicidal attack on the Dyson Sphere.
The final campaign would probably be the exact same as the last mission of the original Freelancer campaign (Trent Campaign). You play as Trent while you evacuate from Planet Toledo and then head to Omicron Major to activate the Dyson Sphere Hyper Gate.
Then, at the very end once you finish all the campaigns, you see the words "Now make your choice, Freelancer. Head to the multiplayer servers to create your character and make your mark on the Universe." Afterwards, you would probably be left with the OpenSP campaign.
If something like this could be implemented, I think it would create HUGE incentives to start role-playing properly since a) the player will actually know how to now and b) the campaign and the Freelancer Universe will appear much more dynamic, rather than bland. However, like I said, this will take a sh*tload amount of work and time and may not even be possible without the source code. Still, I'm throwing the idea out there in case there's a group of developers that thinks it could try it and be successful.
Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits
Em and what's the problem. If you don't like it you can simply get lost.
Lols are fun. Alltought some thing are annoying me from other players, but that's none of my buisness how are they playing their factions/characters as long as they fit in lore.
All of my characters are normal, human, have four limbs(five), speak with their mouth, breath on their nose, walk, complain, suffer.
So how is my Sabre pilot supposed to stand his ground against the libertonian supersoldier which RP dictates that he can sustain more damage than 6 Carriers and not lose?
--My point being that even If some change, some won't, and it will determine the rest to change back. And we're back where we started.
Quote:I was thinking... rather than role play discovery RP canon, why do people prefer to:
[...]
People are people ... some want fun, some want furries, some want RP ... the solution?
Quote:We should make <strike>Discovery Freelancer Role play</strike> people <strike>more attractive</strike> more intelligent so <strike>people</strike> Discovery Freelancer will actually like to <strike>role play</strike> survive it.
Or something like that ^_^
But serious now ... you can't blame that they want fun here. Fun can be PvP in Connecticut, reaching the credit limit due to powertrading/powerpirating, or "just" the intended RP with interactions with other people (and hopefully not that "2milorDAI" interaction )!
*thinks about it*
*reconsiders everything*
Maybe we should add one more paragraph to rule 0.0 to expand our abilities:
everyone is allowed to shot lolwuts, furries and players who destroy your way of having fun every time you see them!
No ... wait, that wouldn't help, would it? ^_^
Okay, I'll try to be more serious now ... kinda like being REALLY serious and give some ideas:
more helpful server messages about restart commands and who to talk to when in need (angels, faction members, other players)
get rid of the old server messages and replace them with recitings of the rules (one rule every 10 minutes perhaps?)
add more information about server commands, the Discovery universe and so on to new ships
restrict access of jumpgates/jumpholes to a certain player level
creating a Russians-only server / get rid of the cyrillic letters and replace them with German/French symbols!
turn Pennsylvania into a rookie system only, so NO experienced player can enter this and newbies can learn to RP and cooperate there
smaller, faster updates to the mod (don't wait for 4.85->4.86, but wait for 4.85.2.26->4.85.3.05 each week/month)
reward players helping newbies with credits or special items to encourage help
place unique and huge Guardian-type battlecruisercarrierdestroyers (like in Master Of Orion 2; for experienced role players only) in front of every exit of the system where rookie pilots spawn and let these ships decide on RP questions about how to RP/play on Discovery which player can pass
make sure the first line in every ID states that ooRP abuses will have its consequences
I think that's all what I can think of now ... oh noez ... *Brainstorm deactivated, powering down ... *
By the way:
Michael Kuiper (my RM pilot, then pirate, then smuggler character) was murdered by Liberty Navy forces once in California, and he will NEVER return ... that's what I call dynamic!
Oh, and one last thing:
Don't assume that everyone is a furry-tailed pokemon lolwut in a capship with every possible weapon mounted and no ID speaking Russian in Connecticut:PIt's very possible that these kiddies have just more than one annoying character ^_^
I like role playing ordinary / generic characters. Elaborating the personality of an everyday soldier is much more fun than doing visible changes to your character's outlook (such as 10 years old fleet admirals or gallic guns on a nomad ship). This is Discovery, after all, the way I develop the character's personality, the same way others discover his traits and uncover a seemingly generic character to be holding something "special" after all.
' Wrote:I've been saying that for a while now. Release smaller updates that at least move the plot a little.
The problem is more that Disco has become stale. It's always been bland.
This.
I quote: 'Disco is like Groundhog day'. Every day is the same, nothing changes. (for those of you who haven't seen that (vey nice) movie, see here.
Basically, you do stuff, log off and nothing has changed. More small updates with minor story progress to represent the flow of time and things that have happened would be a serious cure for the bland-/ staleness.
Vast number of NPCs are just normal, unskilled, joke of aces, poeple or aliens that are just normal.
Though, the players that are max 200 are special.. ye we are more special than NPCs.
NPCs are normal, why do we have to RP normal guys?
Without need for elaborate explanation, and with regards to the fact that I soon must leave for eighteen hours, I'll settle on saying:
I agree with the first post.
Akura Wrote:Try roleplaying a realistic romantic relationship between one of your characters and someone else's.
However I let some things live and die in cyber sex chat rooms. When two dudes (more than likely), one of whom is playing a chick, act out a romance, I leave it to the aforementioned place of discussion and execution or Shakespearean theater.
In short, I find the idea moderately silly and/or disturbing, but I guess I'm being nit-picky in regards to the overall post.
' Wrote:I disagree. I think people roleplay the listed things because this is the internet. It's the same reason 80% of all characters are lippy smartasses.
People enjoy pulling their own personal fantasies in game with them. It's their own fiction, designed to make them feel special.
*Shrugs*
Just something we have to live with, even if it's mildly annoying.
Yeah what I actually intended to say is that I would like ideas on how to make disco RP universe more immersive/intense, so that people's personal fantasies automatically revolve more about the disc RP univers than what ever universe catgirls come from.
Im gonna need more time to read the other answers and maybe amend my first post or make a longer response.
