Considering... I've never really gotten around to doing much mining.. that would be a good deal still:P
(I had just very recently set up 2 GMS ships, but never got around to using them as much as I'd have liked.. now I cant :S )
However.. let me just point out.. I never did expect "compensation" the characters were more RP then money makers... though the cashflow was appreciated to fund other projects since I have no "power trader"
Iâll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because itâs flag that I love
And a flag that I trust

The one 'near' FP11 has a unique feature that other fields don't have - you won't get attacked by pirates if you're there, you'll get attacked by the Bounty Hunters Guild Core if you're there. As some miners have found out to their chagrin. You get within 15K of Dabadoru, we will warn you - once. Then we kill you.
That field has two payout points - you can go to FP11 and get something - a 2K payout per. Or you can do the regular haul to New Berlin for a 3.5K payout. The REALLY long haul run isn't worth it in time or effort.
For those people that look at it from a strictly cash viewpoint, it's not that good of a mining spot, because (a) you have Nomad npc's jumping you every 5 minutes and (b) it's not as profitable as gold.
From the role play perspective ... due to time zones, there are lots of evenings when I'm the only one in Delta, and I'll just sit there and quietly shoot a bunch of rocks, load 'em up on a transport, take 'em to New Berlin, haul small arms back out, and then rinse / repeat. You do that for most of a year, you get a heck of a bank roll...

If we create six equally profitable mining fields around sirius, only one of them gets used at a time. It's the one which is in the least out-of-the-way spot. For example, Daumann diamond mining in Omega 11, has been the best, most profitable mining in the game, since the day the mining mod was turned on... Nobody used it... Why?
Well to start with Pennsylvania's mining was right infront of people when they undocked for the first time. That's a stupid mistake we made, and it reaaaaaally needed to be turned off. So it was. Then we had Dublin. That's a vanilla system, quick and easy to get to, and importantly, known by your average nub.
Activity breeds more activity, so once you've got people in a spot mining, you can see more people going there and emulating them, and then you get pirates who suddenly have something to do, and then lawfuls.
So soon enough, everyone sees thousands of people in one spot, and so assumes that must be -the- place to go to make money when infact, it's really not.
BMM - Tau 23 (it's really rather good)
IMG - Tau 23
IMG - Omega 7
Daumann - Omega 11 and Omega 7
Kruger - Omega 7
Those are the profitable mining spots outside dublin. Nobody uses the BMM field in 23, nobody uses the Daumann field in 11 (which is the most profitable mining in the game, seriously).
Blame the flock mentality.
No, blame the Essex and the Hood.
About the Daumann mining in Omega 11, it's not that profitable. With a 5k transport you make 2.5 mils more than mining silver for Kruger but here is why nobody does it:
- you pay a lot on ship repairs
- hessian guard system 6k away from the mining field
- our base 60k away from the mining field (if you don't fly through the sun) and o get there you pass near a hessian base
- the radiation keeps other people away so you NEVER see any mercenaries, freelancers/escorts, bounty hunters, etc.
- the Police never comes there and all the RM forces who lately started to patrol the system get met by a heavy hessian force
- hessians get a x2.5 bonus on uncut diamonds compared to Daumann's x3 and there is no way a trading/mining faction can counter hessian factions, guns or ships
- a 30 minutes patrol run in a bomber costs up to 2 mils, maybe even more if you actually go into the mining field
- because the system is empty there is nobody around to hear you scream when hessian gunboats pop out 6k away
Should the admins and devs decide to turn mining back on DHC is working on a "project" for the mining industry in Rheinland which is also supported by Kruger. With the Essex and Hood gone or seriously nerfed the mining will spread out
I don't mind if it will remain off. Less capitals spam and at last molly will suck. Losers like Fred.the.great will be out of business. I have nothing against Garda they was reasonable and had RP. Miners will switch to traders and Dublin will be of no interest place.
