Hegemon's advantages:
- 8 guns forward firing (same as PTrans. Turret 9 on the PTrans is rearfiring. Turrets 1&2 on the hege are forward only, 7 and 8 on the Hege are rear firing)
- 8 guns aft firing (PTrans: only 3...)
- Rear firing cruise disruptor. Can save your behind against nova torp bombers and the likes, or to surprise an enemy early in a turn.
- Massive powercore (for a transport) and hull rating. Loading one up with standard class 5 turrets instead of transport ones might do a little less damage, but you can fire into infinity that way and still have energy to spare for a heavy transport shield.
- The Hegemon can reverse at 30m/s, twice as fast as most ships. With the collision damage active, and no breaking lights, this could cause some fighters to be forced into a collisions with this heavy ship.
Disadvantages:
- Huge model. This thing is wider then most battleships. Broad side of a barn for anyone shooting at it.
- Turrets are spread out. This makes hitting a dodging fighter with them a lot harder.
- Top and bottom arc have only 4 guns each reaching there.
- The damn things are hard to move through asteroid fields due to their huge size. Anything fleeing into an asteroid field will likely cause you to lose them.
- Collisions with fighters or other objects tend to spin a hegemon upwards, and around, rapidly.

They are good against most transports. I have had 3 try to hit my Shire. Big mistake. All 3 died. 1 attacked my junker Slave liner. Wow was that funny as it has 10 forward,11 rear guns, and way more armour.
Now against a train? IF you can disrupt good, but 1 miss, and thats it. Even a train handles rocks better then a hedge.
I have gone 1 on 1 P-trans vs Hedge a few times. Before mining change when you needed 1 mining turret was 50/50 win/loss. Now hitting a miner would be easy in both ships. All those mining turrets are a joke if attacked.
Still any snub can kill a hedge easy. Turrets just to spread out,and too many blind spots. Plus as it is a transport, ramming it, to spin it,and then dropping a few mines is nasty, and legal.
Gravedig bad.
On the other hand, you do have a legitimate question.
The answer is yes.
All mining vessels, the dacite, basalt, mafic, and Hegemon, are Sirius Civilian and can be used by almost anyone.
