Quote:You should put up a recruitment thread to ask members of Discovery community who are capable of assisting you in any way, even in non essential areas of the project if you must keep your code secret. Relying solely on the Disco dev team is laughable somewhat unrealistic, considering it took them more than 2 years and maybe even more to develop 4.86.

ITS BEEN 2 YEARS?

Man I really need to get a job.

Quote:Right now I'm designing the backbone of everything, nothing is visual yet. I will have to rely on "extra-modded" Freelancer ships/worlds/what-not for visual testing but those will be replaced before Alpha.

Are you including better graphics?

I assume so from that guy that said is PC wouldnt be good enough...

I will design a system that allows current dev/admins to transfer player data into it so that none of you lose anything, and after 2.86 rolls out, those features will be added into it as well.
I'm sorry, but frankly that's a dumb idea. That's not fair at all to the plenty of other good, quality Freelancer mods that are forced to use this old, outdated engine. While I love the effort you're putting in and all that, I just don't think limiting something this big and major to any one mod is in any way fair.

Why?

He's not making a Freelancer mod. He's making a whole new game.

I know. But limiting his new engine for one of the old mods is detrimental to modding and seems to be nothing more than just a giant middle finger. I can understand Discovery getting it first, sure. But only Discovery getting it? Definitely not cool.

I dont think all the people who Q_Q Share the engine with other modders! Q_Q do realize how much this person, if all that he said is true, has had to work.

I say, in recognition to your hard work, we should all play by your rules and FTW.

Hugs.

Edit: Your hard, philantropic work.

I have to agree with you here, but if this releases to disco, Its only a matter of time till the other mods have it ,like it or not.

LIBERTY IS THE STRONGEST OF THEM ALL!!! oh wait, that's 4.84
Now you'll see. I'll predict the future. in 4.86 Gallia will launch a full scale attack on the houses! guess how I know.

at first.

nice to hear. good luck with that

' Wrote:and what about hardware required?

Would it run smooth on my 1.6 GHz , nVidia ION netbook like current lancer?
' Wrote:I can't make any statements on minimum required hardware just yet.

The engine is being designed and tested on my home computer, i7 4.2GHz 12GB DDR...so it will be up to the community's own testing to see how it performs on your end and some options may become available to "dumb down the game" to be playable.

if you still have such a weak computer in 2013 you doin it wrong:P

edit:
(even at current time you can get a quadcore for ~500+ euros - pretty powerfull dual cores for ~300-400 euros - if you know where to look for em)

edit2:
and another thing.
did you already think about the copyright stuff and so on?
releasing a game FREE with content of microsofts game - will cause problems.
only way it could happen without law problems: eleminate all vanilla FL content (ships/houses/story etc)

oh wait.... we have gallia for doing that:D

I literally danced around the room when I saw this. If this is as good as you say it will be then I can hardly wait!

Some of the QQers do have valid points but I'm not going to criticize you, just give some thought to what they say.

Reseach into the Kansas sector
Research into the Privas Planetary Cluster
Research into Alien "Trade Lanes"
A new ship, Jack Denton's time on Freeport 11
The JHC Drive
An Unscheduled Vacation of Sorts
The above are meant to be read in order, if you jump in at "A new ship" you are going to be lost.

You're not going to have my support if this is a Disco only thing. Just no. End of story.

What? Why Discovery only? That makes no sense...

I think there are other 'engine-replacements' in development... or withering in the grave. It's hard to tell the difference these days

Seriously, anyone remember "Openlancer?"

It crops up now and again. I saw it on github recently. Edit: Actually, I just realized it's not the original project, just the same name.
