If you have a serious loadout on your liner, you can easily give a gunboat a run for his money. No, the turret slots aren't worthless either, there are some damn good turrets out there.
Of course there are pirates out there that can kill you, but I don't want to fly my gunboat every time I want to make a buck or two on a run. You do make some good points with your analogies, but I feel i need to poke some holes in them.
Quote:Now to some looks as to what things influenced the liner's creation. The American President's convoy. Usually consists of 4 guys on motorcycles, and then 2 cars, with the Limo. Now that Limo, that is the Luxury Liner in this case. It has some very nice luxury in it.
But its also bullet-proof, and can keep the president alive and safe from the explosion of a rocket launcher. Now this car is NOT fast. Not at all. Its heavy, its slow, but it can take alot of punishment.
Thats what the luxury liner should be like. Very nice in the inside, but strong enough to survive an attack through its amount of armor. It should also be very slow.
Sure, I agree completely with that.
Since when has this limo had the same capacity as an 18 wheeler, though, or even one of those smaller lorries you see on British roads?
Prisoners are also transported in Armoured vans, which have no where near the capacity of those 18 wheelers.
In my view, an 18 wheeler can be constituted as an Advanced train. The biggest of the big on the roads. The mother of ground-bound transport vehicles. Surely, the limo of the president doesn't have 86% the space of the 18 wheeler (5000 cargo space on the Adv Train, 4300 on the Bretonian Liner i think)
I don't doubt your analogies, but I couldn't help but see the massive hole in your argument..
Also, it isn't about how cheap or expensive cargo capacity is for however much you pay. Its about the certainty of getting to your destination with the cargo alive and well. 200k armour with a mk VIII capital ship armour upgrade is 600k armour. How can a fighter, or even two, stop that before it gets to its destination? I know one person who is planning to do this already...
On the 140 or 150k armour Advanced Train, that is 450k armour. However, you have no hope of even firing back at your enemy because you have no offensive capability at all (those turrets are worthless, even with the best fighter turrets on the market). You are as much of a target as the liner flying one too.
Traders shouldn't fly them, but they do. Traders should only use trading ships. A liner is a better smuggling ship by far than the Firefly, which is a purpose built smuggling vessel. That shouldn't be the case at all.
EDIT!!!:
And yeah, that was kind of backtracking on the arguement... but hey.
