I switched from Windows 7 and I'm fairly happy overall (excluding some compatibility issues of the touchpad of the laptop, but that's more Acer's fault).
Didn't do a fresh install - just upgraded keeping all files and settings - and it did indeed (even the desktop background, icon order and minor things like that).
There are a few things I didn't like though. Like the MS store thing scanning your entire laptop for content. No idea why it did that, but it was process consuming, causing battery drain. Another thing, you can disable Cortana, but she still remains as a process taking some 50M of memory. Can't be shut down.
Of course there is the ad thing for Solitaire. Since I don't play the built-in MS games, I don't care. There are ads in the built-in news program, but again, I don't use it, so I don't care.
The good thing is they give you the option to switch back to your old Windows, provided you do so within a month.
