Point defence system ?

Ok this is just an idea that came in my mind after playing some Fractured space, dont eat me alive.
In that game there is a point defence system, when some enemy fighters or a missile salvo is coming, you could activate it for some seconds and the ship will fire with small and limited range gun for destroying them.

Is technycally possible to something like that on freelancer?
Like giving battleship lets say ten class2 or class4 turrets that fire autonomously like npc stations.

This would even make them find a role on the battlefield lol
