Why are they available anywhere?
Why did we ditch the fuel based economy which gave way more instrumental value to fuel commodities? (which was an entire section of the economy axed)
Why did we go from cloaks being considered rare and difficult to attain, to a world where anyone can land on any base that they are neutral or better to and be able to refuel their exotic technology?
Why did we go from actually needing to be strategic about the use of cloaks to being able to cloak from docking point to dock point and always know there will be batteries waiting for you?
Oh yeah, cloaks are bad. Here they are, but don't use them. Especially not to the best of their ability!
I admit little changed for snub cloaks, but for the rest, fuel mattered, and where you could get it was a challenge. If you were like me, you worked to RP with people to get access to bases, or you flew around charting friendly bases and who sold what for fuel.
No lets ditch that and make it an arcade game and blame it on capital ship ambushes, which is like the #1 first world problem of disco. Its not that batteries are too cheap, they are under the circumstances, but anyone who still prefers settling for this system is totally insane to me. Not to mention the loss of customization of your own ship. Choosing what armor to use, or how much cargo you want to use, and balancing your own cloak fuel ability, was what made this game stick out to me as actually open ended. I'll never understand why it was determined it was a good idea to make that change, when so much was lost due to it, and practically nothing gained but giving everyone with a snub cloak invincibility, and the ability to fly around the entire game cloaked with little thought as to your next move.
