I was under the impression that if you are attacking someone where the attack didn't hinge on getting a reply to a demand, you simply had to wait 10s before having the ship below 50% shield strength.

It may sound brutal (for a video game) but for those with the clear ability to destroy a ship based on their ID lines, they shouldn't need to wait for any reply. 10 s is enough if you are paying attention to try to talk your way out, or take evasive action/fight back.

As to buttcloaking, technically you can drop your rp while cloaked, and as long as you have the minimum time in, you can drop cloak and CD them after dropping your rp, and if you're not waiting for a reply, after 10s can start dealing serious damage to the other ship. As a pirate I just get them out of cruise, then drop a demand.

Personally if you can attack the ship to destroy it, I could care less if there was no 10s buffer. If you are in territory where there are factions that can do that, you take the risk!

Like the NPC says, look away even for a second, that's all it takes.
