' Wrote:we might stop calling out everything "ooRP" and instead calling it "inappropriate" in a certain sense. - ooRP implies much more than just overkill or the creation of an unfair situation.
ooRP means that someone "is not playing the ROLE of the person he is supposed to play" - and that can hardly be applied to a battlecruiser chasing a starflier. - cause.... it can be very well IN the role of the person that is roleplayed to be a battlecruiser chasing this person.
furthermore - ooRP implies to be violating the RULES as such, while being inappropriate in a certain situation means just abusing certain strengthes compared to others.
a battlecruiser that is chasing and hunting a VHF can even be appropriate. - if some pirate is famous for his actions against the hunters faction - like some "red baron" guy - it IS appropriate to send heavy ships after him to minimize their own losses ( seeing that he is simply better in his fighter than any pilot you have ) - especially for a faction that does not so much care for the process but much more cares for the result.
in that case - it would be rather "inappropriate" to send a lone fighter against him, knowing that this fighter might be "fair" but probably lost - and even virtual roleplayed chars don t really like to die.
Problem lies in BH BC's wordlessly chasing everything thats red on their scanners just because they must kill it. Kind of enjoyed annoying one of them in my Dagger in NY. So is there any reason for a BC to chase a lone Dagger, equipped with fearsome lvl 3 or 4 blasters which is only flying around ?
Yet another example.
A fleet of BH's chasing my Battlestar from Delta to Gamma. I wasn't aware that they have any reason to hunt me so i tried to ask few questions while i was cruising away. Stopped by Gamma jumphole since i felt "reasonably safe" and of course while i was having conversation with one of the BH's (ironicaly he was piloting a fighter) Battleship and both Battle Cruisies opened fire on me. Still hoped they will stop before we've got a chance to talk but when my hull went down to ~50% i gave up. You would also expect such an organised hunting group including 3 or 4 cap ships to actually be able to disrupt their victim wouldnt you?
Of course in Gamma where they were seriously outnumbered who did the talking and who silently ran away ?
I honestly don't mind people flying caps as long as they behave reasonably. I do however try to hunt down the ones who mindlessly chase fighters "cause they can".
And as for OORP - i think that "Dai !" "dialogue" and shooting isn't exacly a form of "RP" we would expect.
