I popped into one on OpenSP.
It has an interesting turning circle I must say.

Why not implement a limited jump drive for it?
IE, 10 minute jump build up time and co-ordinates are set before you engage the jump build up.
It actually works 100% perfectly, just wouldn't fit Discovery much in other parts but for this Barge, it would be just right.

You can also set certain regulations into the co-ordinates, so you don't end up around certain areas (IE, it was usually used for around planets etc so you didn't jump..into them but it can easily be replicated for around other objects, such as jumpgates etc)

So all in all, the jump drive FLHook (As I used it) worked perfectly and had no issues offline and online.
Allowing the Barge limited use of it, with plenty of programmed regulations, would solve the jumping problem.
