Personally, I treat IFF and name as inrp knowledge. I mean IFF stands for Identify Friend or Foe. It's there expressly to make itself known.
I treat the ship's name as part of the transponder information too. Pretty sure modern planes squawk out a name. Of course this is based entirely from segments in films I have watched where the man in the radiotower is telling the girl how to land the plane because all the pilots are dead.
IDs are kind of a grey area so I mostly go off the tags.
