Pirate IDs....

6 People left, in the following few months, good people, good RPers, and I will tell you, Both from the lawful and unlawful sides. They simply deleted their character because they couldnt either take the bull that was given to them when 15 pirates attack manhattan every day, or to watch their wingmates gank a lone liberator.

Things are effed up, drama around, whining and such, Baltar, I specifically stated more rules will not make a better world, but if you see that there is something wrong here, help me find a better alternative then to restrict people even more, provide me with an alternate solution, I will gladly take it.

Yes ... I left Disco for a short time as well ... deleted all my characters because I got ticked off at the rule lawyers and PVP-centric lawfuls. I had some good and decent role play going on with my faction, but those who ran the SA (Southern Alliance) couldn't see past their noses as to what role play can be. They were of the "see red their dead" mentality. At least Liberty lawfuls have improved in their role play since those days.

There's bull everywhere you look Sindroms. Traders just plain do NOT want to be bothered while they're making money. They do NOT want ANY form of interaction with other players until they've reached their cash goal to make their purchase of whatever uber-cap they're looking for. And these guys are always making anti-pirate threads trying to convince the admins to tighten the rules around pirates. The rules are already close to strangling the role play of piracy all together. We don't need people adding even more restrictions on these characters.

Heck ... I'd like to see traders actually role play for a change. Instead of going for the highest paying cargo ... traders "should" be trading with ONLY those factions they are friendly with. That means you don't see competing trading companies working with one another. Why would Burger King and McDonald's be friends and help each other make money? Burger King would surely rather McDonald's go out of business. But you don't see this kind of role play among traders.

ALTERNATE SOLUTION:

First ... we'd have to take Manhattan out of the picture as far as being the most profit bringing planet in the system. Its the biggest black market in all of Sirius ... and yet we constantly hear lawfuls complain about smugglers running to and from Manhattan.

Second ... it really depends on who these 15 pirates are. If they are part of the HF (which really are not pirates but wear the Lane Hacker ID) ... there's role play behind these raids. I used to be a member of HF ... there's historic conflict between HF and Liberty.

Third ... quit complaining about pirates in general ... be specific ... don't lump us ALL into the same group of lul-whutting-PVP-centric idiots. Stereotyping only makes things worse.

Fourth ... there's already rules on the books to address 15 pirates raiding. I've seen admins come online and give the smack down on pirates attacking Manhattan and hanging about. Seen quite a few of these guys end up in Bastille. You see an armada of pirates with no role play behind what they're doing ... take some screens and file a report ... but don't turn it into a trial-by-forum.
