Top 3 things that make RP impossible

Ok, I am just gonna throw this list out there of the top ways RP is messed up.

1. LAG LAG LAG!!!!

Lag
Ok, the first one is the ultimate killer. Imagine you are a trader with a ping of 250. You come across someone with a ping of 40 hellbent on RPing as a pirate to you. He fires a cruise disruptor at you and, from his perspective you stop, but from yours you are still going. Then you make it to a place and dock (yes! I have seen this happen!) and suddenly you dissapear from his view.

Another weird little thing happens on a laggy server: NPC bypassing. If your ping is more than 400 NPCs may simply stop registering allowing you to move freely. Also, there is the ghost death where you randomly die and you realise someone just killed you 3 systems away.

But those are not mainly RP issues, but what happens when RP ends? PVP:crazy:. If you don't know the pirate is ransoming you due to lag, you keep going and he will not get a response. He assumes RP has ended and kills you. But there's a twist! That little bit of pvp has put your connection over the edge and you disconnect.

Language Troubles
Two kinds of people say they can't speak english. Power traders and people who genuinely can't. Unfortunately, if he is not going to talk to you, you can't differentiate. So, what do you do? You end up either letting them go blowin them away anyhow.

The problem is that no matter if you speak english or not, its an excellent way to dodge many pirates who simply let people like this go. Also, they might assume that since they don't understand you and you just CDed them, that they can engage with no notice and blow you away.

The server rules are always in english, so if they don't speak english then they are not going to know most of them.

PVP Blues

Well, those are some of the ways RP is destroyed by not following pvp rules. Lots of new players will go on killing sprees with their starfliers before an older player corrects them. The unfortunate fact: most people do not read any of the rules before starting.

Also, you get people who use a proxy and make characters just to kill random people.

Finally, the OORPness of most pvp is truly staggering. I have seen a corsair sit outside of planet erie and ransom EVERYONE who passed through there for over 15 minutes before an LSF Battleship came into view and he ran.

Battleships
Battleships are supposed to be the epitemy of roleplay, powerful fleet vessels that are more of a threat than an actual combat craft. Boasting powerful shields and immensely overpowered guns, they can tear up pretty much anything in no time.

But instead of roleplaying with them, they get used as lolwut money makers, lolwut permenant sentry guns, and lolwut overkill devices.

Have you ever been to omicron alpha? There are more battleship pilots than sabre pilots. Its amazing really. And most of them are indies.
