In regards to piracy

The system is designed so that each player who is involved in the mining can make 30-40+ mil per hour. The reason a single transport carries so much ore (in value terms) is so that miners can spend most of their time mining rather than trading.

I'm sad about this thread because the intention was to add plenty of money to the game to support lots of other associated players (escorts, repair ships, pirates and police/navy hunting the pirates). This seems to have failed as many of the mining groups just refuse to let go of their cargo or cash. They offer escorts and pirates two million for a trip when they are making 40 mil each.

1/3 of the cargo in cargo or credits is a reasonable demand - this could be 20-40 mil for an ore ship. I'll often let people away with a fraction of this if they tell a good story.

*But* if someone mucks me around when I'm pirating them, I'll kill them and take the lot. I'm a pirate and that's what we do.

My numbers were off, then - not surprising, seeing as the only mining ship I have is a Basalt, and half, or thereabouts, of the money I got in the fortnight before the server went down was from escorting transports/watching over miners. Over half, in fact. Though even if I am pretty oblivious to the time taken to fill a transport, 50 million as a demand still seems rather high.
