I'm personally very pro- the idea. However, I would say that I think this format is ONLY appropreate for a very narrow range of events (far fewer than is suggested.)

A full scale war between houses clearly works well. However, in order for these to be integratable into the RP of Discovery, they need to be relatively infrequent. (RPed as specific offensives, each with their own outcomes and aftermaths on the real RP server).

The next class of battles, I think, need a slightly different approach.
  • Outcasts vs. Corsairs
  • Zoners/Order vs. Nomads
  • Order vs. BHG Core
  • Outcasts vs. IMG
  • Hessian/SCRA vs. Rhineland (attempted occupation of O7 or something?)
(There's probably plenty I've missed, but just to give the jist of the idea)
With these conflicts between organisations that have their own significant military forces, but on a smaller scale than Houses (referred to henceforth as Sub-houses) it seems to be entirely unrealistic that the forces present would be able to deploy, say, 5 battleships each, and replace them again and again (ie. get through 10 battleships an hour, like GRN/KNF have).
I therfore think that, for these conflicts, there should be no /restart faction_battleship function, and that perhaps one or two battleships could be admin-granted to the respective group leaders before the battle commences. This would reduce the number of battleships deployed, and redeployed, to a more realistic number to match the factions involved.
Alternatively or additionally, those who have been appointed battleship captains could agree to only deploy their ships say, once every hour, so when their battleship is killed they switch to another ship, and only re-deploy the battleship after enough time has passed that it doesnt look like an inplausable battleship spawnwar.

Then, the third class is dometic conflicts between Police and criminals, etc. In my view, spawning cruisers and battleships for these conflicts is entirely inappropriate, and should probably be limited to Fighters, Bombers and Gunboats. That said, the sheer number of people involved, even if all in fighters, could overload the plausible number these groups would have available. Increased numbers also means increased chance of it turning into a mosh pit. In my experience, fighter-based battles tend to get messy and slow if more than 10 per side are involved. I think it might be best if domestic conflicts such as LPI vs. Rogues/LH/Xenos, or RFP vs. LWB/Bundschuh be kept on the real RP server.

I also think that this format, though great, could be over used, and the event server could be in danger of turning into a pvp server where the scenery changes every few weeks.
I think it would be far better if these events where months apart, extensively RPed by the full-time RP members of the respective clans and factions in the run up, and aftermath, both on forums and in-game. I think these events should be RPed to the extent of having their stories and outcomes posted on the wiki, as specific facets of discovery's developing history. (like we remember the Battle of Trafalgar, or the Battle of Hastings). I also, much though I loved the GRN/KNF battles, dont think they should be allowed to go on for too long.
  • Lets keep the battles realistic, but fun.
  • Let's have extensive RP buildups and aftermaths, that make a real difference to the history of Sirius.
  • Let's make every event special, and always keep people craving for more.
It would be amazing if we could have small DSUpdates before and after such events, mostly involving the moving of stationary battleships.
So, if, for the sake of argument, the BHG launched an offensive against the Order and launched a proper invasion of Omicron Minor, a BHG-Battleship could be placed near the Omicron-Delta hole in Omicron Minor in a DSupdate before the event, for the BHG forces to be based from. After the event, the station-ship could be moved/deleted in another automatic update.
Not sure how much work it would take to do this, but it would be amazing.:P
