Well if we are gonna be realistic battleships in real life are mostly used against other BS , against large targets - bases, cyties etc. Then the mid class ships come wich are made to take on BS, the the small class cap. ships wich is the there to take mid class... etc.
And fighters in real life can easily take on a BS , only if the intell. has done its work good (and the BS hasn't detected it).
So things are fine by now.
Remember a real battlegroup is unbeateble only if consisted of various ships which cover for each one. And thats why a BS is better to have a smaller ship secorts in order to counter enemy's moves. Balance hangs in the variety. If all ships are one class , they can easily be destroyed by the enemy using their weaknesses.
Every type of ship has its strong and weak sides...combile to compensate that. FL is better played in a group than alone. Specialisation of military units(group members) is the key...
