The only time I mine is when I want to be left alone (I go and hide as far away from the patrol routes as I can) or there's no-one else on the server.
It can take ages to fill a rhino let alone something bigger like a Dromedary, Humpback, Bactian and I'm not dumb enough to try mining in a Transport or Train.
