The admins said before (although jokingly) it was indeed balanced, it takes you the same amount of time to complete X number of trade runs for the HUGE burst profit you get from 1 run on a barge doing the same route.

Alas, Mining did cause a lot of Q_Qing over where all the lolwuts went (they follow the money obviously)

Will those who invested both time and money into Mining characters be compensated?

The admins never do this, except for when they screw up on a sanction.
