Dab, lag is not created by the connection.

Lag can be created in the freelancer server four ways:

1) Number of concurrent users. The more, the bigger the chance of major lag.

2) Number of players in a particular system. I've seen 12 players in an EMPTY system and no lag, but introduce NPC's, Lag-o-rama.

3) Number of NPCs that have to be generated for *ONE* person. This is a server-side thing and is a processor HOG!

4) Number of players in a dogfight with NPCs. the more NPCs/Players, the more lag as it's the SERVER that is doing all the processing power, not your local computer.

So.. if you have groups of 6 to 12 NPCs per patrol, and you end up in a dogfight with all of them, even if you're on an OC-32 Fiber Optic connection (about 100GB per second transfer rate), you'll still have lag.

Something for all you system modelers to think about..
