Remember - this is science fiction, not fantasy. Everything your character do and possess must be explained in a plausible scientific fashion. Supernatural powers and anthropomorphics are pushing the limits, don't overdo it and don't ever force it upon others.
Edit: There're other ways of making your character interesting without making him/her into superman. The pinacle of roleplaying is creating an extraordinary role out of a seemingly ordinary character. Only the unimaginative use far fetched addtions to enhance their featureless and stereotipical characters.
