This is kinda what I was thinking when I made the thread. I'm interested to see that most people's idea of advancement or progression seem to be things which are outside their own control.
In this case people seem to push their own attainment goals towards a new mod. Now... Personally, my own goals (as a player) are just to develop my characters and my good-times-fun to the maximum extent the mod and situation around me allows.
In my case, most of this centers around the [LN]. Attempting to keep the now very stable working relationship with the LSF steady in an oorp sense, and trying to find new ideas to make the [LN] a better environment for me, and for the people who play in it. For the last couple of weeks I've been slacking off a bit here, but that's due to work, and then the need to rest. These efforts include trying (note, trying) to keep the [LN] as an acceptable faction to interact with for those who're not a member. Getting the proverbial poop flung at you simply isn't fun.
What interests me is the way people seem to set their goals to a point which is unobtainable, rather than finding themselves more content with their current situation, and simply taking what opportunities come along.
