freighters do need a buff, if they were as awesome as people claim they wouldnt be so rare.

people stating that they once upon a time have used a freighter to some good effect isnt really worth anything. they easily snac'd, easily MR'd, hell even easily torpedo'd.

they have less batteries and in some cases less health than a VHF and bomber.

they are pointless ships atm.

Not really. Some freighters are better than others. I think some of them were just left behind when the last buff happened.

As for rarity, problem is that freighters are all around ships that get beaten in particular tasks by specialized classes. Fighters will do better in a fight, Bombers will perform better against heavy targets and transports can carry much more cargo. While freighters can perform fairly well in all of them, they don't excel compared to other ships.
