Like one user wrote , when he comes to New York , first thing he visit is Manhattan , dispute he is un-law and there is Planetary defenses there . Why ?
Because that is system activity gathering place , all gathers there , Traders (looking for protection or escort), Law ones (looking for something funn to do , like escorting trader or cashing un-law) and, un-law-fouls roaming around(looking for a trader victim or law one to chase) etc .
Take away docking weapon and Manhattan will not be activity gathering place anymore , it will be no different than Planet Los Angeles or Houston(dead as a dodo bird).Traders will not feel safe there anymore , and they will avoid it if possible , law ones will not come there , since there will be no traders to escort and no un-law ones to chase , and un-law ones will not be there because there is no traders to pirate and no law-ones to kill .
Want to kill this activity gathering place ?
Go ahead.

Docking ring defenses are the inly functionable weapons on those planets. Removing them wpuld let everyone just sit on the ring, which would not make sense. I think that unlawfuls are smart enough not to go to places such as those.

You're talking about killing Liberty. That isn't ever going to happen.

As a side note, i'd very much like to see Missile turrets disappear. Since then it might give people the incentive to attack the unlawful folk knowing they don't have the advantage of a missile spamming abomination doing all the work for them. Thus they can't sit around the Planet, thus interactions no longer only center around Planet.

Just my opinion but i see no negative aspect here.

I am torn between options.

The dual missiles suck because they insta snubs and every insta kill is stupid. They destroy the fun of fighting for anything smaller than caps.
So the dual missiles need to go.

However, I can still remember raids that created stupid situations in which e.g. an unlawful horde spawnkilled the defenders right in front of their home planet. I vividly remember a GRN NL raid that left me raging bc it felt just wrong.

Torn between options, I would go for:
> kill dual missiles => too much of a killer for any interaction
> replace with Pulses

Or... my 2nd best opinion: delete them all and see what happens.

Hm, can't decide.
Screw it.
Delete it.

Sounds like masochism. You usually seem to think things through more than this.

Decreased range as a compromise any good?

I know your opinion on the matter, but I'm quoting that part of your post to make a general statement/question. Would people still feel the same way if the defenders fended off the GRN sucessfully?

A different situation that can't really be applied to everywhere else. The point stands, planets are supposed to be safe zones for everyone who's on good terms with the respective factions. If you're not, you shouldn't be hanging around there to begin with. And that's exactly what the docking ring weaponry does. Punishes you for a mistake you've made as a hostile. I don't see the reason to remove the weaponry as it is, nor change it, really.

Edit: actually, it would make sense to remove the insta kill ability and drain shields and health in a more steadily way rather than in an instance.

This poll is rigged. It's inaccurate. And making decision on inaccurate poll would be not the best option.

There is less than 10 Docking Rings with Heavy Torpedoes. That's capital planets, Malta and Crete. Maybe few others I don't know about. But if you are implying that making Capital Planet of a house vulnerable to raids will improve activity, you are absolutely wrong. House spaces have tens of other hotspots that are good for group combat. This is streched argument that less than 10 semi-circles of 5k radius is "detrimental to gameplay". Considering how PoBs' Weapon Platforms are much more "detrimental to gameplay" and were used for a while to defend Manhattan or New Tokyo or even access regular systems. Or mining fields. Literally preventing activity in circle of 5k radius.

If you really wanted to remove "detrimental to gameplay" features, you would start with Player Owned Bases.
