As cool and 'realistic' as it might be to spend thirty seconds backing away from the mooring fixture, and sloooooooowly turning around (or just flying straight through it), all it's accomplished is everyone flying into a planet and dying.
I dunno what you're implying about the "Dying" thing (citing the ships you've used would help fix this; since I NEVER had this happen on my Lib Dready), but I -can- tell you I somewhat agree that the facing-the-planet-then-SLOWLY-turning is pretty annoying. Would be better if the ship was facing opposite the planet on the get-go.
Smaller transports? Interesting... On what specific mooring fixtures have your ships kerploded?
From my guess, these dockdives can be caused by a few things:
1.) lag (if this is the case, it's just bad luck then)
2.) improperly distanced/placed mooring fixtures
3.) inherent size of the ship

Pretty much every planet that has the miscoded undock, and you fly straight into the planet, before reversing out of it.
maybe then, you should say what planet has the problem, because all the planets i go to havent gave me one problem. And i am flying a Mastodon (Liberty Transport)
