uh if i would attack all that is red for me i could make no money at all ^^
Also on one ship i had to shoot every junker guard i see in liberty and thats not the gentleman's way.
red is dead is realy a lame excuse to minimize rp hell even in combat situations is a comlink to an enemy posible whereby therms, agreement and/or treaty´s can be formed (as long the rules allow it).
In every id i know stands "can attack" not "must attack".

xD
@ OP
I think it's a bad idea. It's also more related to the server rules and gameplay experience on our own server rather, than to Discovery mod as a whole.

That's one of the things that repel new players (even native English speakers) from the server.
Also, I don't see in which way silent engagement (if it is for a reason) breaks the immersion.
For me it's rather something like "Oh, I need to say something now, or I'm gonna get sanctioned. Brb, locking the afterburn, typing".
Saying something to your enemy before you engage into battle is breaking your immersion? Did I read that correctly? If that is so, you lack imagination. A good confrontation has dialogue, especially when it is no meaningless stupid sideshow (equals: NPCs shooting each others). Would Ned Stark fight Jamie Lannister without a word? Would two knights (player characters, therefore comparable to main characters in movies) in a battle just silently slay each other in a good movie?
Silently engaging is only one thing: Lazy.
Oh, and a second thing: Lame, in my book.

My bounty hunter falls short to Eddard, sorry.
Not every character, or even player behind the screen, is capable of it.
I like to see genuine conversations and speeches. But "leave me alone, I dropped the engagement notice" RP here and there REALLY breaks my immersion.
Futhermore, it's inevitable for those who PvP alot.
I'm not for lolwuttery. Server rules, ID restrictions and admins common sense wouldn't allow it.
I am for a freedom of choice.

Imagine it's a 'go' in conn. :/
Even if the guy's not going to RP, and just drops those small RP lines for engagement, I'd like to see them. Because nothing is more annoying when some clever dude tries to insta SNAC. You should not do that at least. It sucks.
There are people who type, and try to RP in disco still. Allowing some retards to take advantage of this basic server feature to kill typing people would break my immersion.

It's efficient, it's practical. What else you need? ahh, entertainment. Well, I do get that part. Problem is that 'forced' rp is no good either. Also in some circumstances silent egagment is what you would actually should expect.
While verbal interaction should be encouraged some times it's just nonsensical.
Why would my corsair want to chat with hessian? He has nothing to say to him. Person who is motivated to kill in predatory way do not blable about how he gonna do it. He just does it. It would be out of character to start a political debate with other characters you are openly hostile to.
Now I imagine you can have these conversations with neutrals or friendlies, but certainly, not enemies.
Forcing character to roleplay in away that it is out of character for sake to uphold roleplay environment is like screwing for virginity.
Especially enemies can have refreshing pre-engagement rp easily because it is so easy to exceed the (generally low) expectations and to be above average in quality in that kind of interaction. It's entirely up to the players to invest creativity and energy into the process.
If you however only push for the fast pvp and if you feel that the foreplay is only a chore, that's your problem because: You are on an rp server. But I would say that typing 2 lines is a chore that everybody can manage, even if he hates it.
I guess... it's still only: laziness and being bored of rp.
