I've grown up hearing some of the strangest and 'worst' swear words I've ever seen, exposed to as much gore and sex as I want and basically all the information that the internet can provide, without filters.

Yet I tend not to swear, to speak properly, to treat people nicely (Maybe not on the forums:rolleyes:), to have an avid social life and to do nicely in school. Basically all sorted

OOOh my ears!!! they are bleeding.
Folks, please.
There are indeed children playing yes... but I believe the ultimate responsibility lies with the "adults" in the crowd. If someone goes off on a potty mouth binge, then it needs to be dealt with by the admins. Crying about it here won't do any good. If you doubt this... check out the other treads posted on this very same subject here and on any other public server/forum, ad nasuem

It's a sad fact of society today...

People forget how to express themselves in a way that isn't a flame or an insult.

All the best,

Valori

I view swear words as an extension of my vocabulary to express myself, so they get used fairly often I'll admit.

The only time I'd ever swear on the Discovery server is in a group/private chat with people that I know well and that are comfortable with it (I'd always ask first.).

It isn't the word that is the issue, it's how people use it.

The reason why we have a team of admins analyze and discuss each sanction report is because of the fact that everything needs to be contextualized.

As Linkus said, it's how the word is used, not the word itself. For instance, the scientifically correct term for a female dog is also a very nasty word that is commonly thrown around in life.

When we come down on people who are using language in game, its necessarily to analyze how it happened, and why it happened. Believe it or not, cursing in RP is very distinguishable from cursing OORP.

On a more serious note, however, it's also often our younger companions on this server who are very prone to insulting, as they often do not possess the self-restraint that our older members do.
As potentially, the youngest person in the community, I resent that statement. I know several others just a little older than me (say 16) who also exibit high levels of maturity, more than you might say some of the people in their twenties here do.

You shouldn't sterotype someone on their maturity based solely on their age.
