Heh, even if I don't respond, I always at least read anything that pops up. It's bad manners not to - plus anything they/other people do say might give you an important hint as to, well, anything.
I have found however, the worst times for me to perform my talk/lag/chat trick is when I'm jousting or fighting someone who spams mines. Especially when in a Starblazer...
As many have said, this is not your responsibility. Especially if they try and call you on it, at which point they've broken RP themselves.
I don't know how often I'll be staring at a bomber, who will fire off one or two lines of RP, and fire a Razor/SN shot at my stationary fighter immediately after the last line. It hasn't worked yet, thankfully.

a) entering into a friendly chit-chit?
or
b) cursing your bad luck and hoping to get in a quick volley of weapons in before either of them can destroy you?
C.) Call them (factionname) scum who deserve to be exterminated as one would exterminate roaches, and then go on a spree about women's rights (if I'm my GC), or the wonders of Cardi (if on my OC).
Why? Because its fun, best for RP, and doesn't make me look like an ass. Oh, and the responses are usually quite amusing.
Oh and Rudo, the way people succeed with that is by using the /setmsg # messagehere then /# to auto-chat it, then fire immediately. Cheap tactic that people use just to get around the RP warning rule. I've actually seen people kill someone, then use their auto-chat command immediately afterwards.. And then got sanctioned for it. Laughed a bit at that one..

I won't say that I've filed a sanction report based on just that occurance, but.... :)
I also agree in that, once combat starts, you're very UNLIKELY to see much out of me - typing and flying while trying to survive are contra-indicated. I'll be glad to talk things over with the <strike>Scumbags of Sirius</strike> bounties I'm trying to collect first. And that can take a while, which is fine.
But as the others said - when the photons fly... thus endeth the talking. I have enough fun just hitting f9 or f10 to fraps things at that point.

It must be a lot harder to evade and type in gunboats and up, since they're a bigger target. When in combat you shouldn't feel obliged to reply. In a fighter it's relatively easy if you can type with one hand (I have to look at the keyboard to type too) But you should at least explain to them after you've whooped their whiney butts that it's hard for you to type while out numbered in combat.
jubal, when you ran from us in omicron minor a few days back, you mentioned after the fight "nice, talking to me to get a reply so you could disrupt me" - At the time, that was not my intent at all, I just happen to be an extremely fast typer and wasnt going to let you get away. Afterwards, I did comment back on how that turned out to my advantage, playing your 'weakness', but it wasnt intentional at all.

I think you're overreacting a bit.
Yours was not the episode that prompted this--was several others who were quite intentional and they are the ones. It was obvious after that you hadn't thought about it at the time--nor were you using multiple supernovas on me or complaining about my rp which was what I was addressing. Once again, this isn't about you and its not me that's overreacting :/ (and note the compliment that includes you at the beginning of the post)
It also wasn't a "revenge" posting. I wanted to bring this up so it got addressed in public--not for my own personal satisfaction. I haven't mentioned a single name of anyone who has done this or implied who they were. The point was to simply point out the bad sportsmanship side of it so that it might cause a few to reconsider.
The other affirming comments are an added bonus in this regards--makes it pretty clear that this isn't an acceptable tactic by most people which is good to see. My absolute point though is simply that being a bad sport on any level is no fun for anyone here.
I had no idea it was premeditated to the point of auto messaging--sheesh--good to know it ain't just me.
