Absolutely not.
  • Flies in the face of the game and mod design
  • All sorts of unfair losses
  • All sorts of mechanics being useless or more dangerous than its worth
  • Requires a huge economy rebalance in every domain
  • Requires a huge rebalance of NPCs given the lawful/unlawful disparity
  • Means the only punitive action available is bans
  • Will provoke claims of buillying by the same people upset at losing their bases as soon as there's a bounty issued
  • Will compound ragequits
  • Will drive away the playerbase
  • Could potentially leave players feeling defeated and they may have literally nothing to return to
  • Huge bias for anyone not so good at the PvP (hello)

It's an idea, it's just a really bad one. Now, that out of the way, on a mod note:

If any post in here deviates from the OP and becomes a clone of any of the other mentioned POB threads, it's gone. That goes for subsequent replies to errant posts too, so don't waste your time writing them. If you create that work for me repeatedly, you'll see some individual consequences. If you think you're getting away with it and I don't care, I haven't woken up yet, and you have a few short hours to erase the post before I do.

The time I wasted writing this post because it's in flood doesn't actually feel as bad as the time I've wasted reading and having to moderate those other, extremely repetitive threads, but still doesn't come close to the time and energy that you're wasting on each other. I will not save this thread.

Battleships are part of normal pew pew pew
If you want to have something to lose for PoB sieges
Better be having special roleplayed siege ship
Which has evolution ladder similar to PoB
and can be destroyed as PoB.

P.S. Roleplayed Doomsday Devices!

While I agree with the comment about game mechanics, I think it is rather telling that the general tone of the response is... impolitic (exempting Relation-Ship).

Ignoring the Dublin incident, you can go back through recent events and find sieges where the besiegers don't EVER mention the faction of the station being assaulted, yet it must be destroyed. The people that enjoy salt mining have gotten so jaded, they don't bother with anything even close to RP, and the people that should be restraining them don't. It is literally, SSDD.

This thread may be pointless from the perspective of making the suggested change, but it is an attempt at revising the behavior of the server, and the nature of the responses shows the nature of the problem. The irony, in my mind, is that the people that are the minority opinion are the most civil when they have the most reason not to be.

We've had this thread more times than I can count. It's never going to happen.

There is a certain level of depth to disco that makes doing that impossible. Capships would have to be practically invincible for anyone to bother buy one or risk using it.

Eveyone wants solutions here but often frown on the easiest solutions.

I do agree that the current respawn rate for caps against bases is too high. Bases don't stand a chance when attacks can be made every few hours by aramadas of siege ships.

A 24 hour death timer would be much better that what we have at the very least. With player availability that may still wind up pushing back big attacks by a day and a half to two days.

Or give weapons platforms even longer range and make them even more powerful against capitals.

And well its not like NEMP's could have been useful in base defense!? If it were up to me, you could just go mega nuke a wave of attacking ships. With a longer pvp penalty, that would wipe the smug smiles off a siegers's face real quick. Again at the very least, it could be a "% per hit" weapon, meaning instead of an insta kill weapon, make it do an instant 50% damage on any ship in the blast radius, so they could be used to soften up a group of ships for the defenders. That would save NEMP's by keeping them useful and valuable, and allow for balancing out big fights even by underdogs.
