You still got paid for the destruction of their ship, though. Bounties are paid for results. As an LR I'm prone to dying (though I never do, any more, cause running makes more sense.) so whenever a ship of mine gets destroyed, I simply roleplay that whatever is left is hauled back to Alcatraz and recycled and rebuilt. Probably why Rogue ships look so dinky. I'm sure the Navy and Police forces have their ships rolled off the assembly line.
While its' not perfect... it does, I suppose work for most cases. But for people with special RPs like Mon'Star it doesn't make as much sense, not for 'one of a kind' ships/load outs. But we just have to live with it, that's the way Freelancer is unfortunately. RP is our only way around it, so lets just try be creative.
my classic lines"Patterson: ENGINERIRNG EJECT THE REACTOR!,HELM PUL AN EMERGENCY HYPERSPACE JUMP USE THE FLASH TO HIDE US! helm:BUT SIR ITS UNTESTED!patterson:JUST JUMP ENSIGN!" ectra ectra i roleplay my ship getting tore up all the time" reading breachs on decks DGF and E sir enginerrign is compremised compartment C12 decompressed killing 30 men"ectra ectra its al ldependoing on how you word it if its beliveable then so be it if not well
I usually take pride in running away for this very reason, however the implimentation of super long cruise times for Battleships and Cruiser makes them running away difficult, shame the death thing cruisers/BS have doesnt last for a long time, so they can pull a distance away, to a friendly area or something, to aid their RP'd heavy damage.
I stick to my VHF and usually the enemy has the decency to let you leave, and if they dont, you can waste their time plenty. If a VHF dies in a group fight, a friend can RP recovery, and the last man pull out at the end.
It can be hard sometimes, yea. When it's about fighter or even gunboat class sometimes, I say, in RP that the ship was destroyed and pilot either ejected and ran in pod, or status of pilot was unconfirmed, no body found...
About the name of the ship - if I name my boat "Jack" and it sinks in a storm, I see no problems with naming my new boat "Jack" again. So it goes with smaller ships in the space for me, one is destroyed, but most of them are mass-produced, so you just buy or possibly get new one on your base (Surely not so fast that you will be back in 5 mins tho), and add your own callsign to the new ship (the name).
Then of course bigger ships, cruiser class and up, they are not really mass produced, it takes months, or even years to build one, and as with sunken trans-ocean ships in our world, you will hardly name new ones after them. So, except for rare cases, I say it's juste HEAVY damage, loosing several parts (and few members of crew as well), dropping goods, ejecting core possibly, but not totall destructiin, just retreating to the base.
If you claim destruction of capital ship, the one who has gone kaboom should definitely change the name of the ship then (Xxxx to Xxxx II and such), to be really RP. Ah and ...yeah, when captain loses lifes of hunderth(s) crewman, along with very expensive ship, do you think his faction would let him fly the ship again? On in case on self-sponsors... No problem with so many deaths on your account? No problem with hunderths of millions you have to spend, even several times a day? Can someone be THAT rich... No I doubt it. So that's why claiming totall destruction of a capital isn't quite right.
Edited a bit.
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.

I've wondered about this many times & feel that this is just one of those scenarios where RP comes 2nd.
I would like to see a financial deduction based on the value of ship & equipment when you re-spawn & maybe a time delay depending on the size of ship. mmm....24 hours for a Battleship & 5% of their ship value:):D
that would drive capitol pilots broke and i smel lfighter bias tradeing is diffacult at best and with newyork being constantly swarmed by all sorts of pirates(fighters bombers caps ectra) last thing i need is money deducted for my ship koed or to wait a day

My argument is bias on the side of realistic RP & I don't think this game is best served by shoals of Capships.
I'm willing to pay a repair bill if my ship is *damaged* & it wouldn't be just you incurring these additional expenses & time delays. It would also be those pirates you talk about. You'd probably find this would create more clan cohesion, a more logical distribution of ships & offer tactical opportunities in say the war between Kusari & Bretonia.
I appreciate my ideas step on the toes of others and whilst solving some problems generates new ones, but I think the game would benefit from a harsher system.
and people like mysaelf cuz of the new now in my eyes borked tradesystem wouldent beable to play it as im broke and i can say the same for a precent of the comunity as well
