Heh, I'm still teaching myself. Like I mentioned before, I've never had any training or classes on how to model, I got 3dsmax when I was like 12 years old and I've been playing with the same version for about 11 years now. I just learn through trial and error =P
As for comparing sizes to other ships... right now I dont think I have the program needed to import freelancer ship models into the same program, but if someone could provide me with the model files (in .3ds format) for the junker collector and bulldog, it'd be appreciated.
Making it gallic kind of kills it as a replacemnt for the death scythe/bulldog. I see this as a new ship, not a replacement especially with the lockdown of gallic ships.
-Need help changing the ship model into a .cmp/proper file type for freelancer
Export the model to .3ds. Import into Milkshape, export as .CMP
-Need to figure out how to transfer the current texture mappings into the game along with the model
Convert all textures to .dds, and then reapply them in MS3d. Use .MAT exporter.
-Need to hardpoint the model (have no idea how to do this)
Use HardCMP, select the hardpoint you want to add. Hold down ctrl and click where you want it. Use the numbers and buttons on the right to make hardpoints symmetrical.
-Need to adjust the current ship's stats if this is to replace the bulldog (add two mining laser hardpoints, adjust ship power output and manuverability to be on par with other gallic HF's, need to adjust cargo so that the ship has some use as a mining/salvaging vessel)
All of these are edited using entries in "shiparch.ini" which can be found in Freelancer/DATA/Ships.
Find a ship you want to copy, search for it and copy it over.

hm... didnt notice, I thought the bulldog had 4 class 9's and 2 class 8's...
Oh well, it'll probably end up being added as an entirely new ship since everyone's voiced distaste with replacing the bulldog with a gallia-only model. I might change it over to VHF stats, on par with the lynx GRN VHF.
What I'd really like to do is make it overpowered though... =P
I'd say... class 6 freighter shield, manuverability about the same as the collector, 2 class 7, 2 class 8, 2 class 9 hardpoints, a torpedo hardpoint, cd hardpoint, mine hardpoint, cm hardpoint, VHF-level armor, and about 180 cargo space =)
Just a heads-up, Tena; we should collaborate on the Bulldog replacement background and subsequent infocard if this is to be that.
I didn't know you were also working on redoing the ship and rewrote the infocard with a new name as well, making it sort of the Junker Guard 'calling card' given to those escort pilots and mercenaries who've found themselves inducted to the darker, more secretive circles of the faction. I've got the Guard down as a select few that watch over the salvage workers and smugglers, ex-pirates and ex-military among a multitude of other backgrounds all working together, and all now drug-addicted adrenaline junkie biker gang types, like the first Hells Angels that were former WW2 fighter pilots and just found regular life boring afterward.
But yeah, I've got a Sirian Junker with the Bulldog myself and I'd be loath to give it up. But this new model is great. I know how it's the ship for the Gallic Junkers (which you're developing very well) but it's a beaut.
