I've been assisted by a Bowex player on my BAF before, I've had a Daumann escort assist the RM against me before, and I've assisted people on my Cryer before. I give it a huge thumbs up really. For me, having a corp player jump in to a fight is roughly 500000x better than having a merc or freelancer jump in.

You've also got a good shout at some roleplay too, since on the whole corps only attract hardcore dudes.

Plus it makes people realise that corps aren't just trading factions and opens up more stuff for them in game.

I want more pvp freedom for corp IDs, in fact.

Also obviously, if it's getting in the way of fairplay, don't do it. If I'm in a 2 v 1 and a corp escort comes to help me and balance the fight, that's awesome. If I'm in a 2 v 1 and 15 corp escorts come to help me, that's less cool.

Also the true corpwhores among us use eagles with flashpoints so if you're getting angry about that, hilarious.

New to the forum so bare with me.

No good deed goes unpunished but Im a magnet for trouble anyway.

Having been a cargo/trader/miner, my heart goes out to them in their targets in space. They are frequently jumped by Gunboats or two pirates with enough firepower to make their lives short and cold.

I entered a system and found a transport and its escort under fire from a hostile gunboat intent on destroying the transport to pirate its cargo. The hostile gunboat was firing with intent to scare the transport into stopping and threatening to destroy the transport. The fighter escort was coming from the rear of the transport and engaging to stop the hostile gunboat to no avail. I gave a general system hail if assistance was needed and the gunboat made a general threatening comment. I engaged the gunboat from which the escort and I fought against it for several minutes, ranging from 3-5 minutes, with the transport now joining in the battle just to help keep the hostile gunboats shields down.

Bottom line, we saved the transport, I ticked off a fighter screaming from the sidelines general threatening comments, I helped the escort defending its transport and I made $400,000 from the transport who was thankful that I helped.

Was it worth it? Yes. Would I have done anything differently? Maybe asked that hawk pilot why he was screaming for us to Stop firing or else, 5 minutes into the fight.

Though I made the transport guy happy, I made a Pirate gunboat captain angry and that Hawk pilot and his friends angry. Such is life in space.

Depending on your point of view, and the char you are playing...

USI- Should ignore unless you actually know the person

Police/navy/security- Definitely help the poor guy!

Pirate-Lol, no way

Sorry if this doesn't make any sense to you. I couldn't really understand what you meant.

I didn't vote.

On one hand, responding to distress calls is great.

On the other hand, if the "emergency" happens every day, and there's escort pilots hanging out unemployed, waiting for "distresses" to occur, I seriously think they're flying the wrong colors.

So, do it, but don't do it too often. You have to find the right amount yourself. And be ready to take the consequences of every action you take - and the associated blame.

what I really meant to say is ... it's better not to think about it as "good or bad roleplay" but "a chosen role". If you set your policies to be helping random guys less, you might not get fame and glory among the independent and Zoner traders. And whoever. If you do choose to answer every distress call, even anticipating one at all times, it's your choice. It's your "civilian emergency service". The local authorities might like it, or they might not like it, depending on if you're helping them or stealing their job (from their point of view). The traders and civilians will like you. The pirates might hit your convoys much harder because of that. Or even attack any ship of yours pre-emptively.

Nothing is perfect.

We are already there with the large amount of pirates we pissed off. (CARTEL, ahem(But that is why we love 'em))

I like your idea about doing it, but not often. We now have a response system where if there are no immediate Lawmen available or the target is close enough, we will send one of our escorts. Usually mulls the situation over. Backup is sent as needed.

If it's a fellow trader in distress and under attack, it is perfectly fine for you to assist to defend the helpless transport pilot.

If the Navy, police, or a Bounty Hunter, on the other hand, is intercepting a pirate or smuggler and initiates the brawl, then there is not as much reason for a corporation to intervene.

But again, the specifics might be best left up to the individual character's RP.

This..

If there is a gunfight in the street between mobsters and policemen, the next-door corperation will doubtfully send their security guys in to help..

One has to consider of course that if this hypothetical street fight was going on near or around an area of business that was highly valued, and if the police lost the fight the crooks would go after the nearest corporation, that one might send his men to assist instead of waiting for the crooks to get through the police men.

That doesn't really make sense as a hypothetical situation. But if Navy calls for help from the surrounding civilians, well I believe we will answer.
