Noticeably less energy use, small difference in damage... and I believe it has a faster speed or some other miscellaneous attribute that I found desirable. Maybe a faster fire rate.

As a side note, a Reshep can fire two Basic missile turrets at a time, but not two Order missile turrets.
I originally had a dual missile loadout, a while back. Perhaps I could stand to switch back to Order missiles - but again, they use more energy and are slower, I believe.

2 pulses
2 Cruiser Cerberus
The Rest: Order Cruiser turrets

that would probably works on both enemy Cruiser and GBs, if you have enough aiming and dodging skill, self-defense from enemy fighter/bomber should be no-problem

I'm taking all these ideas into consideration as I try and figure out what to do...the solaris loadout sounds interesting, but risky to me...but it sounds like picking up a pulse gun may be a good idea

yeah I know about getting the armor, I'll have to pick some up

but I need to ask a question in here

I cannot seem to settle on which is better in my mind, a Light Mortar or a Missile turret.

The Mortar does a bit more damage and I think it may use a tiny bit less energy, but the missile tracks, has really long range (almost 6 K) and causes damage to subsystems on impact.

Anyone have any opinions on the missile vs mortar issue I'm having?

Missiles can fire a lot faster than light mortars.
They also track, and they have long range.

A dodging BS can dodge a mortar, but not a Missile.
There's also the brilliance of subsystem damage, which can easily tip the match in your favour.

So what damage you lose, you gain with the other advantages.

This is a somewhat effective setup as an support ship. Head on, not so much. Heres what I use.

1xLight Motar
2xPulse
1x Order Missile Turret
4x Order Cruiser Cannon

All for support role from a range of say 2.5-3k. Bombarding Enemy Capitals. Missile has 5k range I believe, Motar and Pulse have good effective range also. 3 Weapon groups with missile on its own dedicated key.
Missile can drop a gunboat shield fairly fast if you need it for those and does fairly good hull dammage as well.

srsly stop the usless spamming

On the subject of loadouts, unless you are part of fleet actions (joining up with other caps against caps) you might want to steer clear of the missiles on ships with tiny powercores. If you aim to fight a BHG destroyer 1on1, the missile will be of very little use aside sniping his weapons, thanks to the infamous explosion range issue.

If however you would be flying alone, there is really little you can efectively combat with such a light ship, fighters and bombers are not cruiser teratory, and anything bigger than a BHG destroyer or kusari destroyer will simply overpower you (unless you get a very powerful armour upgrade).

Best just try to get an all-round loadout if you aim to fly solo.

I've found missiles to be entirely useless on my carrier. The one and only application they have for me is against battleships, which I must fight at long range, and even then cruiser missiles cannot damage the shields on larger battleships, so without something else hitting shields, the missiles dont do anything.

as far as this:

Quote:Missiles can fire a lot faster than light mortars.

No, they cant. The light mortar has a 0.25 refire rate, that's one shot every four seconds. Order Cruiser Missile Turrets have a refire rate of 0.10, that's one shot every ten seconds. Last I checked, rudimentary math states that 4 is less than 10, so the mortar fires more than twice as fast.

Both of them cost roughly the same amount of energy - mortars are slightly less energy straining, and slightly more efficient. The missiles also have to deal with countermeasures, flak cannons (often used for shooting down missiles, and easily done from a battleship), and even cruise disruptors, plus they can be hit by weapons fire.

All in all, unless you're going to be bombarding a battleship from 5.5k with missiles, dont buy any.

EDIT:

Quote:If however you would be flying alone, there is really little you can efectively combat with such a light ship, fighters and bombers are not cruiser teratory, and anything bigger than a BHG destroyer or kusari destroyer will simply overpower you (unless you get a very powerful armour upgrade).

I dont agree with the last part of your paragraph there either. Look at the osiris - it's one of the smallest battleships, and has less armor/firepower than almost all of the others. However, a well flown osiris can easily take out a larger battleship, manuverability is key.

The recon destroyer has the same number of turrets, roughly the same armor, and the same power core as the bhg destroyer, and it's only slightly larger than the kusari destroyer. These ships can rather easily take out larger cruisers if you focus on dodging and aim your shots well.
