While it's nice that you used assorted Army units - as Heavy Metal Queen alluded, these ain't Army units. You have apparently missed the entire purpose of the Army - and the Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. There's a reason why now it's Combined Arms.
Brief analogy: Let's just say that the U.S.A. decides that it's time to go forth and conquer the island of Cuba - and we're not going to use nukes to do so because for some ungodly reason, we actually want to minimize damage. So - Navy (and other) transports get the troops loaded up on them, and carry the green grunts. Air Force flies overhead and drops assorted bombs and other very large explosive devices to take out the beach defenses, and of course to interdict the Cuban Air Force.
Then the Marines do their job as assault troops and storm the beaches, taking the bunkers and clearing an LZ (landing zone). The Navy has been helping the Air Force with providing air cover (Carriers!) and with taking out beach defenses. (5 inch cannon fire helps show you care.) Once the Marines have secured a clear area, then the Army comes in to do THEIR job - which is to then occupy the ground.
In their breakdown, then the Army has Armor and Infantry. Armor comes along and blows things up in front, then the Infantry occupies the ground. Rinse, repeat, use the Air Force to continue providing air support, and in fairly short order (presuming that the civilian government simply does it's job of saying, go do this - and then gets the hell out of the way and lets the military then do ITS job) Cuba becomes a part of the USA.
All that long wall of text to simply say that, Fletcher, while you had a good idea, you should have used Naval Units - because that's what our SHIPS in Freelancer are - albeit Space Navy, instead of wet navy.
The only issue tha we actually have now is that you really can't compare Freelancer ships to modern or current wet navy ships, they need to compare to WWII era wet navy ships. The reason is that there are two kinds of ships in the modern wet navy - submarines, and targets. Well, technically I guess there are three kinds of ships - US Submarines, US/allied surface ships and targets. (And while other countries may have pride - we're still the varsity out there.) WWII era works best, because you battleships still had a purpose in doing shore bombardment (nothing says loving like sending a shell the size of a Volkswagon 25 miles inland with pinpoint accuracy) - and every thing else is still adequately represented.

I'm pretty sure Fletcher knows that Navy & Air force would be better suited, he just wanted to try with Army. It doesn't take a great thinker to match Battleship = Battleship, Fighter = Fighter ...
