I very much agree with Turkish...on that note...
Oh, actually, bowex does have one...needs an update, though.

One thing, having a place for the meaningless complaints means a place for people to vent, which is quite possibly a healthy thing. People can flame, and they likely will flame. Not having, and refusing to have such a place because you expect flames...well.

This actually came up recently, and I can't see how the phantoms are any different from the OPG.

To be honest, I didn't see much in the way of roleplaying on your side.

Granted, what I see as roleplaying might be different from what you see, but personally, I don't find it smart, nor would any of my characters, to continue mining in front of anyone who's shooting at me, much less a PHANTOM.

I had some nice roleplay with some Phantoms yesterday when one caught my Atlas in Cortez, and while I did end up with my ship in pieces, the experience will probably have Marcus ensuring that there's at least one deck of cards or some other game on board his ship in case he runs into a Phantom again. He'd rather have an alternative game to 'kitties and vacuum'. ;)

Characters
Alan Markson: The Hellfire Legion's Lord Commander
The Perihelion: Freeport Four's guardian, and yet much more. Missing and assumed Lost with all hands.
Eric Dresmund: Junker, smuggler, thief. Last seen drunk on Beaumont
Vayrn Wyard: IMG Recon pilot turned Neo-Terran Captain. Last location unknown

' Wrote:I have one very simple question to ask, not even regarding the video, but the Phantoms in general: how do you expect us to Roleplay extensively without a partner? I dare anyone, not just a pirate (though Unlawfuls are the ones who most often experience this problem), to Roleplay well with only one person. Sure, we can sit there screaming off the stories of our lives for an hour before shooting, but, is that really what everyone wants? No.

This is even more true for the Phantoms, Wilde, Nomads, and Terrorists in general. They have no traditional gain possible for them. No possible gain of credits or material. What do we gain, then? Roleplaying. We gain Roleplaying, and these factions are populated for that sole purpose. If I wanted to kill people, I would log onto an LN in New York, or a Rogue for the other side. I could easily find more than my fair share of fights. But I cannot Roleplay on that character like I can on the Phantom. I can't demand that someone tell me a riddle if the circumstances are right. I have to demand something monetary. I can't demand that someone sings a song on an LN. I have to stop people breaking the law. I log onto that character for the sole purpose of RPing and finding someone who can give me a reason not to kill them. Sadly, it doesn't come often.

But what am I really getting at? It is the fault of both partners if an RP fails. Sometimes one more than the other. If an RP wasn't enjoyable, look at what you contributed to it, and think about it. If everyone here did that, I think they'd be surprised at what they find.

I was wondering why they do not have a feedback thread.

(Make another thread if you want to know why I leave the system when I see a Phantom in it?)

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

Why are you shooting?

*mine mine*

Stop shooting

*mine mine*

Stop stop

*mine mine*

Stop halp

*mine mine*

What is he supposed to do? Get bored and wander off to leave you with your profiteering because you're not willing to do anything but keep hauling in the credits?

I dare say that the feedback thread does not exist because 90% of the posts in it would contain something vile from persons whom were exploded.

I cannot think of anything constructive that would be derived from such a thread that could not be gleaned from a PM to Virus who is immensly receptive to such things.

This thread alone has a pair of hidden vile comments, let alone one dedicated to receiving hang wringing over, say, niobium miners in 49.

First off YAY IM FAMOUS HEY MA LOOK, I AM ON THE TV!!!!

Next off, while you watch this video, take a look at what you are putting out there. I fly up give you a couple of warnings (I looked back afterword, took you almost 30 seconds to respond to me, must have been more interested in getting fraps on than rping with me) and then the entirety of your role play, if you want to call it that, consisted of stop it and Why you shoot me?. Now, I have learned to tell pretty quickly whether people are actually interested in genuine rp or not. You were not, as was clearly evidenced by the fact that throughout the entire incident, you continued to mine niobum. You acted like a loler from the start, and thats what you got treated like. Ask people around the server, you give me the slightest inclination you are interested in rping with me, and I will sit there and talk with you all day, but if you dont, you get what you get.

[font=Calibri]Now, I know this video is supposed to be about MY rp, but I think it might behoove you to take a look at your own rp during this interaction, from what it looks like to me, you were not interested in it at all, and were more interested in getting blown up so you could start a flammy type thread on the forums about it. How bout for every person that evaluates my rp during the interaction we ask them to comment on yours as well? Really man, it takes two to tango, and if you dont give me anything to rp with, its as much your fault as anyone elses, and instead of getting out your flame thrower, maybe you should just take the time and work on the rp for that miner of yours.

I agree with Zelot.
The more failsome RP in the video was that of the miner.

And I understand that factions should have a feedback thread.
But factions like the Phantoms, which people *love* to flame, should really not. It would simply be somewhere along the lines of...
*Ahem*

"Flame flame flame flame fire flame flame flame blaze blaze fire flame flame flame burn flame flame burning flame flame hunk of burning FIRE flame helpfuladvice flame fire flame conflagration flame flame BURN etc ad nauseum"

I predict that it would be like this most of all the time, with seldom little good input.

Yes, Factions should have them.
But, in the Phantom's case, I believe that it's better not to.

i admit i shouldent have shot those rocks, but i hate inefficiency, and when those rocks float by, i have trouble resisting.

and in terms of running away form him, i dont metagame. this character has never heard of the phantoms. me running away when i first saw him would be well, meta gaming.

and i will agree that my roleplay could've been better, but it wasent. but i did try and create more, while he did not. "who are you?" to which he replies "i am phantom. i am your death" and continues blasting me.
all he seemed to want, was for me to try and run. which when i dident do, he screamed"why are you still sitting there?"

(Make another thread if you want to know why I leave the system when I see a Phantom in it?)

I just log these days when one shows up in one of the systems on my trade route (singular intentional).

And frankly, Bacon, here's what I see in that video:
  • Miner performing his namesake.
  • Phantom approaching the miner.
  • Phantom orders miner to run for his life.
  • Miner refuses.
  • Phantom fires on miner, inflicting continual severe damage.
  • Miner runs on request.
  • Phantom SNACs miner and miner dies.
So, we can see in this video that the miner was doomed - he was going to be destroyed regardless of whether or not he complied with the Phantom or not. If the Miner knows he was going to die, IRP he should just point a gun at his head and pull the trigger. The player, in turn, has no reason not to simply go AFK and let the Phantom blow up a totally immobile, unresponsive player ship and make the kill as unsatisfying as possible. That's what the style of play encouraged by many Phantoms produces, and the one of the reasons they need a feedback thread.
