"2mil or die" is all that is needed, anyone can type that in the time it takes for cruise engines to charge up

Why isn't it just the good old "Roleplay required before attack" rule?
That would certainly solve some of these problems... and I'm not sure if it actually would hurt anything.

I get a bit evil of they try to escape without so much as a word, no insult or nothing. I remove the trasports ability to thruster and I stick nearby. I'll cost that powertrader time and make him chose between a slow impulse to base while listening to my propoganda or taking the F1 sanction. Eventually that player is gonna say something, an insult at least...

Then have a quick "drop 25% of your cargo, or it will all burn" preset message ready.

Yes the preset message command had really made it easier to get by this situation. Used to not have such convenent things like setmsg or the ultra credit saving givecash (oh the 100's of millions of credits I lost in space trying to move credit cards from one char to another). It's easier now, imho, and really I find it fun coming across the "silent trader".

Well, as you said, if "2mil or die" is all that it takes, how does this solve the problem? I could just say "2mil in 2 seconds or die" then blast a trader to smithereens. As Sprolf said, we already have a rule that covers the same situation, I don't see the need for another one.

How about a little rule rewrite...

Quote:6.6 Aggressors are not allowed to destroy a trade vessel prior to issuing a demand and allowing sufficient time to respond. Demands may be cargo, credits or an RP demand, such as leaving the system. "Halt" is not a demand.

Quote:6.6 Aggressors are not allowed to destroy a trade vessel prior to issuing a demand and allowing sufficient time to respond. Demands may be cargo, credits or an RP demand, such as leaving the system. "Halt", or any other demand to stop, is not a demand.

Or something like that?

EDIT: Or, yes, make "halt" a demand, along with something like "atleast three words in demands" or such...but since I doubt that's going to happen, see above.

Point is, as it is, the rule's somewhat ambiguous.

I believe that "Halt" should be a sufficient demand. I have this problem with my Rogue.

I disrupt the lane and have the trader drop out. Now, 19/20 times the trader will try and run. Therefore I fire a cruise disruptor and say something like "Hold it there boy." Now, 15/20 traders try to run again. That gives me about 10 seconds to type out a demand and then fire another cruise disruptor.

People say we should just have preset messages. But every encounter is different. Every single encounter is different, and requires a different tone to suit the situation. I would hate to have to use a preset message saying something like "Right boy, your gonna drop half ya cargo or ya gonna discover you can't live in a vacuum the hard way!"

Every situation is different. If that trader does not stop, the request to stop should be seen as a demand. But it should be asked several times. Three times at least. After that, you should be allowed to do what you want to the trader.

This is what I think about the situation. And Joker, I'm sorry to hear about the sanction.

[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

You're right, Sanvitch Thief, you are and for those situations I don't use preset messages. The preset message is on standby for this particular situation. Otherwise my first attempt is to make an elaborate demand but as soon as I see the silent get-away then I hit escape, hit enter and I pop out the preset message. But as I mentioned in previous posts I'll keep the trader alive as I want my RP fix and will spam him with propaganda.

I guess I'll do just that, dude.

I tried to RP with him even before he jumped into California. He ignored me. He said nothing in NY, just rushing into that JG to California. I don't have proof for that, but I guess he should be "prosecuted" for lack of RP in that case, hehe.

1 sanction on my record is something I DO mind. Not to mention Zoner gb turrets I won't be able to get now, due to recent... jokes:P

Thanks everyone for making some things clearer for me. You reminded me, between other good things, how many lousy RPers there are on Disco.

Meh my other post got deleted and I realize why.

do this, if you dont want to type, it makes it easy.

/setmsg 1 Hello there trader Kindly Stop so we may come to a peaceful accord, I would hate to see you lose your ship.

/setmsg 2 Please transfer 2 million credits to my neural net account, so we cover expenditures, and help underprivaleged pirate children to fly gunboats, bombers, and fighters.

/setmsg 3 Look trader, if those ships close to withing 5 kilometers of our position, you will die.

/setmsg 4 YOu warned, open fire all batteries, let no one escape.

thats how I do it. ALso I am far from a silent trader who ever said that, if you have ever pirated my Jinpo character you can attest to this.

Edit: I do know how it feels to try to type a demand, and the trader try to run, or start to rape you with their guns...if they start firing, its at that point, Self Defense, type something like, or have something like, already preset:

/setmsg 5 Look at that, the trader wants to dance, prepare to be vaporized for scratching my shiny new hull

oh yeah....to use those preset messages type /msg #
