2 and 3.

4 is a minority or the motives can be observed under being a criminal organization.

And what Ivan tells is true about being a Mediterannean, me being one, I can confirm that feeling quite well.

However the Corsairs, being rooted as they are at the moment, are not moving towards settling in but seems like empowering their criminal roots.

In my opinion they are a group of Criminals and are far away from a house status i mean you dont even see any other NPC then the Corsairs in Gamma, no ships who transport something like Water or Food and so on, not like in Liberty for example.

Plus Gamma is to small if you compare it to Manhattan, furthermore they miss TL in their System and to sum it up all Houses are somehow legal, expect for Gallia ???? never been there.

I think the Corsairs are an underdeveloped house that's turned to criminal activity to fund their efforts. Because of the lack of diplomatic and trade contacts with the more developed houses, they don't have access to the technology to build up their infrastructure, such as Trade Lanes and Jump Gates.

It may be in the Corsairs best interests to try to open up trade with other houses, but they'll never accomplish it unless they can convince the pirates to give up their trade. Unlikely, since it's easy money...

(You know, it occurs to me that you could substitute "Corsairs" with "Outcasts", and "piracy" with "cardamine", and still have an accurate description of life in the Omicrons.)

Yep. But problem here was that no house in beginning didnt want to help Corsairs with food. None of them does even now.

Would Corsairs and Outcasts become houses if they didn't land where they landed?

I think the answer is obvious there.
Perhaps its something non Mediteranian people won't comprehend but I see entire Hispania filled with passionate people.
Just like they can be united in dance and song, they can be united in hatred as well. That's why you have OC - Corsairs war, and that's why you have Corsairs as an aggressive house in my opinion.

Their lack of food / habitable planets is what forced them to reroute all their energy into fighting and smuggling. United in their hate for others, who have but do not want to provide, they waged war against their neighbours.

For me, Corsair can be a pirate, ofcourse. He just needs to equip that pirate ID then. Corsair ID represents something much much better, or much much worse, depends on what side of the gun are you.

Problem is Ivan, they didn't land else where. They landed on Crete and as such had to resort to pirating and smuggling to survive. To the Corsairs these aren't crimes because they do it to survive. To the victims it is.

A Corsair can be a pirate with the Corsair ID, regardless of your opinion. I'd also remind you that forcing your view of Corsair RP on others is out right wrong and makes you seem like an arse for it.

I view the Corsairs as an underdeveloped mini-House that does what it needs to to survive. I do not view their activities as criminal, but I play a Zoner that makes routine food runs to them and lived in the edge worlds for awhile so he know how life is out there.

Sorry but I can't force anyone to do anything. my corsairs is an independent, and everyone can say "no" to me. I'm not even an elder and I just suggest things. It's not my fault people misinterpret my actions as forcing people into something, I'll be glad if at least someone agrees with me and gives Corsairs move light than some other common pirates.
It'ls like calling Xeno movement pirates.

Or calling Junkers criminals.
List continues.

Corsairs are a criminal organization, plain and simple.

Piracy is a part of being a corsair. Someone focuses on piracy, others on smuggling, 2th on defence of their territory 4th makes diplomacy.

For example Sails are active in all, but focuses on marauding un-allied transports. But it doesn't mean that we limit ou selves from other corsair activities. Thats why we use corsair ID, Ivan. becouse with pirate one doesn't allow enought. Also, keep in mind, that Corsairs are driven by individual gain very often. My character is greedy bestard. And I like it this way.

My point if view that is undeveloped house. Thats why it is so fun to play. Likely a barbarian tribe for comparison I make in my mind.

Focusing on one activity which faction does, doesn't mean that it limits to it.

The problem stems, quite honestly, from the names of the two organizations.

Quote:Corsairs were French privateers (corsaire in French). Since the corsairs gained a swashbuckling reputation, the word corsair is also used generically as a more romantic or flamboyant version of the word privateer, or even of the word pirate. The barbary pirates of north Africa were sometimes called "Turkish corsairs".
1. A pirate, especially along the Barbary Coast.
2. A swift pirate ship, often operating with official sanction.

Outcasts:
1. a person who is rejected or excluded from a social group
2. a vagabond or wanderer
3. anything thrown out or rejected

Both groups, while descended from Spain and the Hispania, ended up having to support themselves not by using their own resources - since they had none - but by pirating, stealing, and looting. So while they've grown and are quasi-houses, at this stage they're not what would be considered legitimate houses.

IF they would renounce their pirating ways, then I feel quite certain that the level of respectability would go up enormously. As it is, there's no real profit for an established shipping line to make food deliveries, for example, since the shipper is just as likely to lose his ship. And until the Corsair or Outcast peoples decide that they want to re-join civilization, they will always be at best a second rate society.
