One idea I had was to allow these restarts over a period of time - basically it would be an event that would remain active and people could log in when they saw fit.

Would turning the 4-hour-rule into the 15-minute-rule (or even do as Benjamin said and remove it entirely) for the purposes of the event be a beneficial thing or just create chaos? I'm not sure how long fights between mk. 1 HFs tend to last. Bearing in mind these are ships that can explode due to ramming...

Remove 4-hour respawn time and we'd be damn close to having fun.

This event has my full-spirited support and inevitable participation.

As for the balance between the ships, I don't care. (I do believe there is a typo in the loadouts, however, looks like there is an extra pair of guns somewhere.)

Sounds like a ton of fun. Will definately be taking part if I'm on when it happens. If it's a success, I'd love to see more events like it in the future.

Suspending the four hour rule might be possible, but most likely we'd need someone monitoring it.

Athenian, I love you for this.

This battle has the possibility to be the single most epic event in all of Disco history. You can count me in, provided it's at a reasonable hour and not on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

In fact, I recommend putting it on a weekend.

Also, a recommendation on the re-engagement things, perhaps making it so that you have to fly back into combat with at least two other people? So you'd have at least trios of fighters instead of awkward strings of single people filtering in and out. Just a thought. Not really a good one, but still, it's out there. Otherwise I'd vote for 10-15 minutes. No death timer at all would just induce an endless battle.

I freaking want this so badly. It has all the possibilities of becoming a raging furball of 30+ mk1 HFs.
