Unfortunatly, AVG, at least the newer versions of it, is also one of the ones that prevent you from logging onto the server.
Personally, I go with Avira.

I don't think it will help. Sorry for the pessimism, but as I stated on Skype, I had the same problem, the catch is in the way Direct X 10 provides network connections for the games. It was reverse compatibile up to version 9, but in DX10 they changed it.
Also, as I stated, another version of win Vista, the 64 bit one, helped. I don't know why. Both were eventually updated, but the update didn't fix it.
Curiously, Windows Seven, while I was testing it, didn't have any problems.
The trouble is that, so far, each antivuris I've had has either not worked for freelancer, or not been approved by my school, leading to me having no net. Soo..what antiviruses are you guys using?
Yes, I could start the game normaly, sometimes even log in, but got kicked by redlag as soon as I did, in SOME systems... I had an SU werewolf stuck in the mine field in Frankfurt for days. As soon as I logged in on it, I got full redlag and got kicked. On other occasions, I could fly around New London on a Shire untill I met someone, then everything went bonkers.
As I said, the reinstall seemed to help. I tried messing around with the antivirus software, but it didn't help really.
That's pretty much all I know about the issue.
I haven't tried other old games in network play, as I didn't have with whom to.
Edit: Antivirus, I currently use Avira, I used AVG, Avast, Kaspersky, Nod32... they all worked, as far as I recall
Well, an update. My school network will only allow me access to the internet while running either the most modern version of AVG, or their Trend micro such and thus. I need to figure out a way to get AVG to let me through...active scanner, you say.
I'll see about turning that off. Anyone else have any ideas?
