@ Quintinius: LH Gunship and BHG Gunship are much smaller and manoeuverable, than all others.

Atm i just speak about these two. In the future maybe some new ones may added for smaller factions, like the Unioner Gunship i have presented.

Why not rename the current gunboats as Frigates, and the gunships as Corvettes?

yeah, see, I voted for it, but I think they shouldn't be considered capships if we change it.

i voted for:
-Transport shields (those should be plenty strong enough for that class)
-4 GB turrets (just seems better to me)

I think the thing we need to be asking ourselfs is if these where made like this, transport shield, 4 turrets, will anyone actually fly them when they can buy a gunboat? because i no i wouldn't.

I retract my idea (above) of renaming Gunboat to Frigate or Corvette. This is a bad idea because there are many items in game now that refer to "gunboat"... Many gunboat turrets, many ships named gunboat, many faction IDs that specify ships to fly as "gunboat" etc. This is a lot of work for Igiss to change.

Even adding a new class called "Sloop" or "Cutter" or whatever means that all of the IDs must be looked at and changed to say whether or not that ID can use such a ship. Do we really need a new class so comparable to the Gunboat? I think leaving the lighter "Gunboats" with names like "Hacker Gunship" is just fine and preferable. In the descriptions of any of these light GBs they should be called "Gunboats" so it is clear which class they fall under.

i.e.
Ship Name: Hacker Gunship
Class: Gunboat
Characteristics: 6 turrets (2 foward-arc only), 75% power plant of standard Gunboat, greater agility than standard Gunboat, less armor than standard GB, same shields and weaponry as standard GB.

More agile, less durable, and less sustainable firepower would set these ships apart but leave them still capable of piracy and fighter/bomber hunting.

try to face any gunship now with any GB now...

gunships are too much for any GB...some balance should be added...

Sloops for the win!
make it light, fast, with 3 or 4 gb turrets, but keep a strong power-supply, about 400, so that they can sling continually....so, a small boat with 3-4 crew (gb have about 8) a transport shield, bit below bomber agility, and a nice pirate vessel
something to challenge larger caps with its agility, or smaller ships with its firepower...reasonably balanced, I think.

I know I don't.
but, I would love to see more variety....and, would it be so horrible, to fight beside a ship like that?
looks fun to me.

I'm all for Gunboats being different than Gunships... A Transport shield would work, but the agility would need to be pretty good, otherwise they'd just be easy pickings for a single VHF. I voted for 6 turrets, but 4 would do if, as Unseelie said, it has the power to fire them continually. Armor around 60-75k.

Ever since I saw the Hacker Gunship I've been thinking of making a request for a Bretonian Gunship. They already have the huge slow tank of a gunboat, they could use a small fast one as well.
